For those who don't look at Derpibooru four or five times an hour, the next batch of Equestria Girls shorts have begun dropping. You can see them all through links below. (And for those wondering, I'm going to let them accumulate a bit more before doing full reviews and card blogs. Besides, I have the ones from a few months ago to cover first.)
That said, a few quick thoughts:
A Fine Line: I love how Fluttershy saying "The revenge?" is already becoming a meme on Derpibooru. It deserves to. Also, Tirek is apparently a fictional (possibly mythological?) character in this world. Also also, Derpy juggling on a unicycle. That is all.
Pinkie Sitting: This is cute, but I can't help but latch onto that Young Designers' Gala. Just how many people in Rarity's age bracket own their own boutiques?
A Queen of Clubs: I appreciate how Derpy is in both the chemistry and baking clubs. Baking is essentially chemistry you can eat. (Also, Flash is in both clubs. The Flashderp shippers may actually be onto something...)
School of Rock: Divergent timelines confirmed. Now the question is what killed the alicorns.

These were fun, I still wish we had gotten an actual series but a years worth of shorts is better than nothing. I gotta admit I had a pretty good laugh at that fencing joke.
I think I saw Raven on "That's so Raven" have one near the end of the show.

Well that's an implied holocaust. Why wouldn't their world's alicorns (and other ponies?) have been sapient? Or... is EqG set in the future?
Or is this all just sorta a nod to the fanfics where ponies evolve on Earth after humanity dies out?
I had no idea there were more new shorts, but at least this gives me something vaguely pony-related to watch this Saturday. You made "A Fine Line" sound interesting. And that screen shot from "School of Rock" raises so many questions. I guess at the very least it confirms that magic has existed in the EG-verse long before Sunset arrived.

My current hypothesis is modeled after Jordan179's work: Ponies and amazing Technicolor hominids evolved (or were designed) around the same time, and natural disaster, supernatural disaster, and/or the internecine wars of the precursor race led to the extinction of one or the other. This marks the critical divergence point between the two timelines.

If there's a fossil record, then Equestrian ponies may have evolved (or been created ) in the EqG dimension and migrated to their current universe. Which would mean that Starswirl didn't invent dimensional travel, he merely rediscovered it.
