NaPoWriMo starts today - What insanity hath Georg wrought · 10:19pm Nov 1st, 2017
As you may have heard, I’m going to try to work through NaPoWriMo with a story called (at the moment) Sweetie Belle - Hogwarts Exchange Student. Naturally, the title should give you an idea of what the story is about, and in the spirit of the month, I will be writing on it, with little things like editing, cleaning up old stories, or adding to my existing works in progress being put on hold. In short, the following stories (with wordcounts) are getting parked for a month:
Her Royal Morning Coffee - 41,000 + 29,600 words i
Twilight Makes a Coltfriend - 17,700 total
Farmer Bruener Has Some Ponies - 20,900
The Practical Pony Prince of Prance - 0 (Second story in the Lazy Dragon collection)
Celestia Gets Nailed - 2000 (No, it’s not like that. Dirty minds.)
Castle Money Pit - 1700
Equestria - 1940 - 43,800 + 6,00 second doc
Hanged - 2,600 (semisequel to ShadowofCygnus Hang)
So for the next month, the experiences of Sweetie Belle in a strange, magic land where a great evil has just been defeated will be interleafed with the experiences of Theodore Nott, in a strange Crystal Empire where a great evil has been defeated. Both will be dealing with the wonders and puzzles of a different world, and the hazardous debris of the defeated, only in different ways.
Sweetie Belle looked down the crowded street of Diagon Alley and let out a little squeal of excitement. She had an entire bag of this world’s bits to spend, and so many places to spend them. This was the best day ever!
Theodore leaned around the corner of the hallway to look at the otherwise plain door a few feet away, then turned back to the short-horned unicorn who had led him down far underground into this crystalline maze. “So, if that’s one of King Sombra’s laboratories, where is his security?”
The old unicorn chuckled, a gravelly sound that bore no humor. “That’s why I wanted a young buck like yourself instead of some old, know-it-all who thinks they’ve got all the answers. Truth is, I don’t know, ‘cause I’ve never been down here before, an’ nopony else who came down here, ever came back. There was probably a dozen of Sombra’s helmeted goons lurking around back in the day, but none of them dared cross that line right there.” Granite’s nicked and scratched hoof pointed at a thin line of green paint tracing across the corridor just past the corner. “So, what’dya think, Nott?”
“I think we should go back up a level and fill every corridor in this place with lava,” said Theodore.
“An’ when whatever’s in that lab gets loose?” asked Granite. “Or worse, if one of the Umbrum manages to find a way in? You’d be back in your dimension, safe and sound, but the ponies here’d pay the price.”
Tapping his wand against his leg, Theodore considered the corridor and the possible traps it concealed. The easy solution would have been making one of the ponies walk down it and see what killed them, but there was always the chance that the trap would not stop at one.
“Reducto might do the trick,” he mused. “Clear away the walls and whatever’s in them, but it might also release a gas or other hex. I think we should do a little more research before we tackle this one.”
It was not apparent at first glance, but a second look showed that Granite was actually smiling, an expression that Theodore had not seen on the unicorn until now.
“You are a smart one, Nott. We might both live through this after all.”
It was not a very comforting phrase to Theodore.
That sounds... interesting.
Some year or other I will do NaNo, but this year is definitely not the year.
Good fortune to you and your story! I am also doing NaNo, trying to finish up a story I've been chipping away at for the last couple years.
I don't understand the purpose of this month. Why stretch out a week's worth of words over a month?
Yeah, but what's the story about?
Wasn’t Theodore Nott a Slythrin who sided with Voldermort? I wonder why he is here.
4714490 For what other reason, but to find friendship. And Crystal Land Mines.
4714451 Insanity, mostly. Mine, it seems.
4714446 You and Short Skirts. Sigh. What Arnold Schwarzenegger is to Weightlifting, you two are to Pony Fic writing.
4714437 I have to admit, three days in and it's giving me good incentive.
