So, the PoS was basically NMM all over again... Except NMM had more of a personality! And with ANOTHER unexplained DARK POWER which will almost certainly never be explained...
They blew the chance to unite the unexplained Dark Magic of NMM, Sombra, and the Alicorn Amulet. Now instead we have ANOTHER dangling plot thread.
Also, there really was not enough time to tell the story. It felt like the synopsis of a novel. Yes, you had the 'whole story', but without any of the necessary development, no pathos or ethos, no strong characterization of anyone with so many actors sharing a very small stage.
This story should have taken at least half a season to tell. Instead, imagine that the entire tale of "Gravity Falls" had to be told in 40 minutes... that's what this felt like to me.
So we got to see the Sirens again... and god dammit, I wish the story had been more about them. They were interesting villains with strong individual traits and real presence to the story. The PoS was just... there. I never felt any menace from him at all. The constant 'muwah ha ha ha' actually made me chuckle at first, then groan as he just kept doing it over and over! I started to picture Dick Dastardly twirling his mustache.
All in all... no more than what I expected. A horribly rushed story with NOTHING fleshed out at all.
Oh, and that whole thing with Shadowlocke in the comic a while back clearly played no part in anything... as I predicted.
And the PoS we saw in "Castle Mania" clearly had nothing to do with the actual PoS... as I predicted.
And Discord and the changelings were just absent from the episodes since they were powerful enough to end things instantly with the lame PoS's ill-defined powers... as I predicted.
This is getting so easy it's not even fun anymore. 
Wait, THE SIRENS!? You mean the same ones of EQG 2?
4711259 Yeah, we got a little shot of them facing off against the previous Mane 6 and getting banished... of course, this doesn't mesh with EqG exactly since the Sirens themselves only spoke of Starswirl alone defeating them.
More retconning due to lack of foreplanning, as usual.
But anyway, they looked great in their fishy forms... way better than the PoS which at least to me was almost comically 'dark' in appearance. NMM and even Sombra had style... this thing was a joke.

And we also get a comic showing that. I feel like the writers have completely given up on the concept of continuity.
The only positive thing that I can think of about this retcon is that it may prove that the Sirens did actually got banished into the EQG verse.
4711675 Well, maybe they'll come into the show and be interesting. Heck, why not at this point if they're just dumping continuity out the window. At least the Sirens are entertaining and have actual personalities instead of just going "MUWAH HA HA HA!" the entire friggin' time. Seriously, by the 3rd time I just wanted to punch the PoS in the face... then geld it... with a dull razor blade.\
But the WORST thing is all the twats on EqD gushing about it being the greatest episode ever and the best-written and just a whole bunch of ass-kissing nonsense. If they actually believe THAT was the best-written ANYTHING, then clearly this fandom has almost nothing but the dumbest dumbasses left along with a handful who keep up the vain hope that maybe it'll get better again... I think I've lost that hope entirely.
I'm at 4:58 seconds... And the alicorns grand pumba is shown up by deus ex shoe horn. Fuck
