    Author update!

I'm editing stuff! But also incredibly dried out of writing power atm. I'll get going again soon, but just bear with me for a bit. I'm publishing a chapter of XCOM today, then start on the daily writing (not publishing) again tomorrow morning. In the meantime, always remember:

    Remembering Koji Wada

Like every year, I like to remember the man/legend responsible for the theme songs of one of my favorite shows of all time on the anniversary of his death.

So if you were wondering about the timing for the latest Isekai chapters? There you go.

    Welp, here's a life update

These last couple of weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. Good things have happened, and also bad ones. No wonder I could relate to both Furina and Navia in the latest Isekai chapter. Sometimes pretending things are fine is really exhausting, even if they do get better.

    Welp, another year older and...

...still writing ponies. (Among other things, granted.)

Update to the Isekai coming tonight! And some additional details and change of plans.

First, to everyone waiting patiently for the next Isekai chapter, I apologize for the delay. I know there are a lot of people that want to see another visit to Hell happen soon, and it will, I promise. However, due to some circumstances, I decided for a different pair of visitors to visit the bar this week.

MLP Movie-spoiler free (is that even needed now?) · 1:46am Oct 22nd, 2017

So I finally watched it last night...

...and I can see the appeal of it for some people. But definitely not for me. Nope. In my case, it'll be non-canon until it's officially part of the actual series, and I hope that never happens.

Now, don't get me wrong—it's not bad. Voice acting was great for the most part; the animation made me cringe so often I had to stretch out on the floor for a couple of hours to fix my back was okay... The story was... eh. The characters, for the most part, cute and somewhat developed. Hell, Tempest is an okay new character! Storm King... anyway, I see the appeal some people have for it as long as it's basically the opposite of what I would have enjoyed myself.

It does ring a bell with early MLP, and re-introduces the cast as they were a couple of years ago, (another reason I don't consider this canonical to the series for now), you know, before they actually had some stronger character development. If you look fondly to the early series and have been disappointed with the last two, this is probably a balm to your mental suffering.

I did appreciate the detail that when Twilight uses combat magic she closes her eyes like a total n00b, in consistency with her other battles.

To me? Well... I've moved on from the convenient idiot-ball passing that has been ironed out by now into some regressions, but not an absolute dominance of the issue. The animation, although made more fluid to the point of Plasticine and shiny, didn't have me going "wow!" like the first Sonic Rainboom, for example. The visual gags, rather than the spontaneous guffaws I'd get from freak-out Twilight or over reacting ponies, seemed... done. Just shinier.

I honestly didn't go in with high expectations, at all. It's just... nor for me and didn't provide anything that I hadn't seen before in the series. But by all means watch it and make your mind about it... I'm not saying it's wrong to like it! I'm just saying, it was not for me.

I found more to dislike about the movie's story, characters, and questionable decisions regarding the darker tone, though I enjoyed some of the animation more than your blog post suggests. However, it was just not for me, which parallels your overall thoughts on the movie. At least Season 7 was excellent!

I enjoyed the movie, and plan to purchase it when it comes out. I'll admit it was not perfect (it especially suffered from the show's chronic pacing issues, i.e. trying to do too many things in too little time), but I liked (most of) the new characters (Tempest was a dark horse favorite for me (pun tangential)).

Your opinion is wrong, D. The movie was the best thing since the Season Three, you just have no taste. Tempest Shadow is best pony, everybody loves her, and the animation was phenomenal. Also, you smell.

I really like how the movie doesn't fit at all with the show.

Lots of excellent lines, at least. I think the biggest shenanigan is that it's an advertisement to get people to watch the show over being its own thing.

Tell us how you really feel.

I agree with you on one thing D.
The movie WAS a pony nostalgia trip. I feel like this movie would have been better received if it had come out shortly after season 3.

I found the movie a lot darker than what the trailers had shown us. I never expected Twilight to be chased down out of Equestria, caged, and emotionally traumatized. That scene where she was like maybe I don't need friends like you was all such a different theme than what ponies usually presents, too. I had to pause the movie at that scene because I simply could not believe my ears!

There were many things I realized after watching the movie, though.

1: Tempest Shadow is now best pone by far.
2: Tempest Shadow needs to be shipped with Twilight.
3: Tempest Shadow needs all the snuggles from Twilight.
4: Don't know if it was because of Tempest or because of the movie being an actual movie, but I've been writing every single day on a Tempest x Twilight shipfic. Due to some... things that happened, I had only been writing like, once a week if I was lucky. It's such an exciting change, and I love it! I feel like I'm a new brony.

Overall, I really loved the movie. Hell, I even bought a blu ray disc drive for my PC so I can buy the blu ray dvd and enjoy it at its fullest extent possible. Damn thing cost like, $65 lol.

I hated it, honestly, but I haven't liked the show in a while.

4704738 Tempest Shadow is my early draft for Twilight Spark :pinkiecrazy:

How come? The part about not liking the show in a while.

4704746
Say what now? I don't quite understand, sorry.:twilightblush:

Also, get on discord! There's something I have to show you, bro.

4704750 If you had read TER you'd get it :raritywink:

4704748
Because it has no narrative, no genuine stakes, no serious character growth (note how it's constantly reset), and the humor is often hit-or-miss.

Steven Universe, DuckTales, Avatar, Adventure Time, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, and other shows are beating the pants off it in terms of being good shows.

Hm.

A lot of people who write seem to have disliked it.

~Skeeter The Lurker

As soon as the princess of friendship told off her friends, after the events of season 2 discord... all the stuff leading up to twilight becoming an alicorn, that's when I pretty much wrote off the movie. Not to mention the futility of most of the journey other than picking up a goon squad.

However as far as I'm concerned we got at least two decent/catchy songs out of the movie so the movie wasn't a complete wash.

4704751
Her horn being broken and her gratuitous use of lightning certainly made me think of Spark.

I enjoyed the movie, although it was just like a very long episode and I wasn't fond of Twilight's attempt to steal that pearl thing, seems rather OoC for her

What really makes me scratch my head is some people saying this movie's dark.

Um... what? Did you guys magically forget about kids movies that're actually dark? Secret of NIMH? The Iron Giant? Toy Story 3? Waaaaaaaaaaay darker than the MLP movie.

I dunno, man, people seem to be having long-term memory problems. :applejackconfused:

4704752
you realize none of those things are what Hasbro is aiming for the show, right? and to be fair, most of them have pretty much fulfilled their aspirations, theres pretty much nowhere to go with the current cast now.

4704896
She was desperate, so she wasn't thinking straight. You could see how, throughout the movie, she was slowly getting more fed up with her friends and frustrated at their whole situation.

4704915
Yes, that's exactly the problem. Hasbro is aiming low and boy are they hitting that target.

4704917
as far as they're concerned, as long as kids buy their toys, they could care less what the show ends up like. do remember that its not aimed for our age group, we're just a happy accident. the show will NEVER get the deep storyline's that we've made here on this site. EVER. not unless they say thats what they want.

4704919
Yes, that is exactly the problem. How nice of you to point it out :D

4704925
i fail to see how its a problem.

Actually, i'm glad there's no spoilers. Out here in Oz, we're not going to be able to see the movie until November. (Not that I don't already know pretty much everything about the plot already. I got the graphic novel at the beginning of last week, as well as the art book and the soundtrack CD.) If I get the dvd or blu-ray before November, then I can save myself the cost of going to the cinema to see it... then again, maybe I'd still go...)

4704752
Adventure Time might be a good show in terms of plot and characters, but the animation style makes my artistic sense want to burn everything about it. I hate shows where the animation looks like it was done by three-year-olds...

I'm happy that mlp movie went out because its reminded me when Bladerunner is out! :D

I liked it overall, it delivered exactly what I expected. Funnily enough, what I liked most about it was the animation because to me it looked very organic and smooth (okay, mainly the ponies). Several funny references, the voice acting is wonderful and I'm utterly in love with the true main character here. Apart from that... useless Alicorns, Rainbow and Pinkie being a pain in noob Twilight's flank, the three minute redemption 'arc'... all par for the course. The only thing that really bugged me was Twilight acting quite ooc (to me) that one time.

Anyway, I went into it expecting family entertainment for me and my three kids and that was exactly what I got. Canon? Drop 95% of it, but Tempest has to be canon. Loved her so much. And Rarity x Capper :b

This is my reaction to the title. Yes, because Aussie bronies Haven’t seen it yet. It’s yet to come out.

4704881
That was the point though. Even though they didn’t get the pearl, they got friendship, and it was that friendship that helped them save the day.

It felt very pony, but maybe more like G2 pony. I remember thinking after watching it that i enjoyed it, but i would never have written fanfic about a show like the movie. I think the difference was that the movie was like a thing made by animators, in which each character is defined by one or two schticks.

4705143 huh. This bears some thinking, I see what you mean...

4704954
I don't like the animation style, either. I still think that it's better narratively.

That may be all well and good, but may I present the following counter argument?
