Judging a Contest and Ghost Rider Shtuff · 10:44am Oct 19th, 2017

Howdy howdy, folks! First and foremost, as always, Adorable Applejack:

Tale as old as time, true as it can be...

Now then, to start, I am going to be a judge of as contest coming up! Ever hear of CategoricalGrant? He's a cool dude, writes some silly, diabetes-inducingly cute stuff, and hilarious political stories that never devolve into partisanship. Anywho, he's holding a contest for ungodly cute stories, called CategoricalGrant's CUddlefic Contest. The basics is a story that features two or more ponies(or dragons, griffons, etc.) snuggling in some fashion, be it platonic, post-coital, or whatever. You can find the rules here. This is gonna be a fun one, so consider throwing some words together for teh cuteness.

Now, I want to say a brief word about a story on my front page: Macintosh Apple: The Ghost Rider, by Captain Unstoppable.

Cap has been working on this story for years, and it's almost complete, just awaiting an epilogue. I've helped a little bit on this story, mainly being someone Cap can bounce ideas off of, but, in painful honesty... I kinda skimmed it at first. Not really taking a good, hard look at it, more just proofreading for a friend.

Well, that changed two days ago,m when I went back and actually read the damn thing, and... wow. Y'all, this story is awesome. The action scenes are brutal—almost indulgently so in the caribou chapter, but they deserved it, trust me—the sad parts are heart-wrenching, and the romance is spot-on. It's Cap, so you know it's got MacDash and SoarinJack in it, but they flow together very naturally. The backstory for each relationship is well made, and Cap does the hardest thing in pony shipping: keeping Rainbow Dash in character while also having her be romantic. The only pony that acts a bit... OoC is Mac himself. He talks a bit too much, even in flashbacks, but that's kinda a given as he's the main character. I've only seen maybe two stories that had him as the main PoV and kept him in his "Eeyup, Nnope" mentality. Also, I'm not the biggest comic fan in the world, but Cap is, so it's very true to the comic books.

The writing is a bit... stiff at times, as Cap seems to have a deadly allergy to contractions, and it can go on explanations and descriptions a bit longer than it needs. But there's very little else I can say bad about it. It really is an exciting read. It's on my list of "stories you need to read or you fail at life" list for a reason. If you're into action, romance, and enjoy justice, give it a read.

Til next time stay safe, stay free, and stay metal! Jake The Army Guy out!
