Rainbow: Thanks, Pinkie. I really appreciate the intent, but I don't like pies, including and especially you. I hope you don't mind if I just give this to our friends to share among themselves.

There. Just solved your "crisis" with an opening dialogue rather than a full length episode, show.
The episode is strongly reminiscent of "Princess Celestia Hates Tea", right down to suspecting that Rainbow has been replaced my some kind of monster. I will naturally chalk this up to yet another case of parallel thinking.
While I find the episode ridiculous, I like seeing Pinkie angry. No stupid Pinkamena rage or whatever, just angry.
Well of course the solution is easy if you have Rainbow Dash do something she normally wouldn't do. Half the point was Dash should have just be honest at the start, the other being Pinkie should have just asked Rainbow if she didn't like pie. But they acted in character. They where the logical choice for this lesson.

Remember in Suited for Success when Twilight was telling Rarity that she wasn't a laughingstock, then Rainbow says "She kinda is!"? How does that brutal honesty translate to "I want to spare Pinkie's feelings"?

Remember only two seasons ago, when Twilight said Meadowbrook was an eastern unicorn who was known for having eight magical artefacts? How does that become Meadowbrook being a swamp-dwelling earth pony healer from the south?
Just face it. The show may be about ponies, but it's written by goldfish.

Well in "Party of One" Rainbow saw how Pinkie was when she thought her friends didn't like her parties. She was probably afraid if she told Pinkie she didn't like her pies that Pinkie would have another mental breakdown. She had no reason to fear being brutally honest with Rarity, but would she risk upsetting a pony she's seen go off the deep end before?
Little un-related comment but, can you do another art blog for your series? I'm sure more pieces have come to your attention and it would make a filler blog post before your next chapter.

Remember back in season one where Pinkie went nuts after thinking that her friends didn't like her anymore and Dash was the one to walk in on the result? She was probably afraid of what might happen if Pinkie found out that she really didn't like her pies.

That episode was about her being upset because her friends were keeping secrets from her. How is keeping more secrets from her supposed to avoid that? You'd think Rainbow would realize that Pinkie doesn't handle being kept in the dark too well, so why is her go to response about pies to keep Pinkie in the dark again?
And it goes to show that Rarity is the better friend, doesn't it? If she can take being told shit well while everypony has to walk on eggshells with Pinkie. I would not be friends with someone who would go off the deep end because I told her that I didn't like something she made.

Meadowbrook was first mentioned in The Cutie Map, so two seasons ago.
4698449 It's in her character, her history shows Dash doesn't always make the best choices and does keep secrets she shouldn't. Parental Glidance comes to mind, she didn't tell he parents about one of most important parts of her life accomplishing her life's goal. She lied about being injured so she wouldn't have to chose who she competed with in the Crystal Games, yes she came to her senses, but she lied to both sides because she thought it was better than disappointing one. Rainbow lied about the pies because she wanted to spare Pinkie's feelings, in the end she shouldn't have. It was better to disappoint Pinkie a little than to deceive her thus the lesson.
