Common Mistakes in our thinking that need to be addressed · 1:13pm Oct 10th, 2017

As you have likely surmised this concerns errors in what we either have been told or think we learned. I'll start things off with an example from MLP FiM. Honesty is not the same as Truthfulness, but in the series, Honesty and Truthfulness are treated as one and the same, mainly through the Character of Applejack. The biggest example of this is her magical key episode, where she helped perpetuate a lie and then owned up to it. While it can be presented as dishonest, the Dishonesty was not hers and instead that of the Flim Flam brothers and their partner at the time Silver Shill. Applejack herself wasn't being dishonest, merely untruthful, due to circumstances forced upon her. Yes, one of the descriptions of Honesty is the quality of being truthful but being truthful is described as adhering to what is the truth, at no point does truthfulness describe itself as have the qualities of being honest. Honesty mostly is described as being devoid of fraud and/or deceit. Was Applejack being deceitful? Not entirely, she was supporting the fraudulent claims of the product, but she herself was not actually being deceitful. Were the Flim Flam brothers being dishonest? Yes, were they being untruthful? Yes, were they acting with deceit and fraud? In a business sense that is also a yes. At no point was Applejack actually being dishonest, merely not being entirely truthful.

Good point, never really thought about it.

It should be noted that Applejack was sincere in that episode when she was asked did the tonic work, her answer was, 'it seemed to work for Granny Smith', which was a sincere answer as it did seem to work for Granny Smith
One could argue that it's also an equivocation as well, as it doesn't give a definitive answer one way or the other.

Which just helps move my point along, at no point did she do anything dishonest of her own volition.
