Chrysalis Wins update 10/8/2017 AND MOVIE TALK! · 8:38am Oct 8th, 2017

K, So I'll just start this with updates on the cover art as it's going. It's basically been my weekend so far.

Everything will be shaded fully once it's all incorporated in the collab. That said. Here's the Mane 6

The princesses and Shining Armor

Crone, I did some shading for fun, but since I'll only be moving the vectors around the shading will probably look different on the finish.

Colored up Monarch too.

Then for Fun, I just wanted to put Chryssie and Crony together, gives a general idea to their size differences, and other slight differences in aethetic. I thought Crone could go with a bit more blue. Coming from the "Pool" or tangential reasoning like that.

Also did a side by side with Chrysalis Monarch.

Now if you're wondering why Monarch is so big I'll get a little Spoilery, since I don't think it's really been explained in-story yet. Blocked in case you want to wait for the in story explanation.

The quick run down, There's actually a fourth Classification of Changeling, Imperial. It's what Avalanche and Crafty were. So Monarch is basically a distance Niece to the likes of those two. The function of an Imperial changeling is similar to the relationship between common changelings and Royals. Except its between Royals and Imperials.

This information is critically relevant to the old civil war that's been mentioned a few times, and largely defines the relationship Monarch has to the other three, (Specter, Armor, and More) It's also pretty important to how Chrysalis's position in the picture will be affected. All of this being several chapters down the line. I think that's all I'll share on that. Don't wanna spoil it all for ya ;P

Then I also did some sketches for additional Characters I thought about as I've been working.

So that's Blueblood top left, Fleur and Fancy top right. Then Trixie and Starlight. The top three I plan on placing next to the Mane 6 and Princesses. Since they've had bits of involvement in the story. Trixie and Starlight I plan on putting next to Discord, Tirek and Sombra. Since those two really fit a little more into the Antagonistical side... or something like that. Oh, and Also.

Carve.

In case you've thought I forgot about the banished changelings all the way back in ch.27 spoiler I Haven't
And I think I've found a way I'd really like to tie them in.

As I kept going with the sketches I began thinking, why not the big string pullers themselves. They could make nice background details. Good Ol' Harmony and Golden Spoon.

Hmm, Also something about Armor's design I didn't feel satisfied with. So I've played around with redesigning his look a bit. Here's the new Sketch, and the old one for comparison.

Which one do ya like better? The new one or old? ( First one is new, Second one is old ). Also been thinking about Changing the name from Armor to Bastion. Just so it doesn't mix or confuse with Shining Armor at all. Or was King enough distiction? lol.

Now, with the cast getting a little large there. I'm thinking of Fleshing it out as a big 1920x1080 frame. Since all these Character Frames are gonna need a bigger base to stand on when compared to my original doodle.

Also, it would conveniently fit my screen saver size :rainbowwild:

K, That's about it for the cover art. Now to the Movie talk! Spoiler Warning! If you haven't seen the movie yet.

I'll start by saying I didn't go into the movie with any real critical expectations. It looked nice, and it's cool to get a movie for the show. Overall I was very pleased, and I thought the 3-D / 2-D effects were incorporated very nicely.

Now of course the most important part of a story is its villains :trollestia:. So I was particularly interested in how Tempest and Storm King would be characterized. My quick rundown of that is Tempest ( or Fizzle cherry berry Pop, or whatever her actual name was ) was characterized pretty well, and she was the main one to tug at your emotions. Also, I love her song. I think I've listened to it for 10 hours at this point.

Storm King, to put it flatly, was rather flat. I suppose I went in with the expectation that he was going to be involved a little more than he was, but whatever. He served his very plot based purpose.

Naturally my thoughts ventured into what the movie might mean for C.W. or what material I may be able to fish out of it. Upon reflection I very much enjoyed what the movie has added to the MLP well of Content. There are several things about it I'd very much like to include.

Just to break it down for you guys a bit more, I'd been sitting at Ch.102 in terms of plotting for a few weeks now. I'd been thinking about where Chrysalis's Equestrian Adventures would actually end. I had been coming to the conclusion that I would probably finish it with plots and machinations from Starlight Glimmer. She was the last real Canon Character I would think that could give Chrysalis problems, also since Season 6 didn't really give anything that could fuel Chrysalis Wins as an adventure story, or season 7 for that matter so far. However, the movie has definitely made me reconsider, and reconsider happily at that!

In fact! I probably got more things to consider for the cover art...

LOL! anyway, thanks for making it through this long blog post. I'll probably getting writing on the next chapter here in a few short days. "POWER BALL!"

Nice drawings.

I dunno, I like both designs... The new one's armour looks better, just add some belts keeping it in place.

Chryssie and Crone look cute together.

Well, Chryssie's still better than Monarch, who can go die in a fire for all I care. If all imperials are such monsters, maybe they should go extinct. >.>

One question, though. Are the holes in Chryssie's wings caused by something different? I remember the holes in the bodies of her changelings being caused by those parasites, and they disappeared once removed. And Crone doesn't seem to have them.

Hmm, good question. I suppose I went with the holes intuitively at first because it gave Chrysalis's wings a slightly rougher look, reflecting a little more of her world weary past. Where as Crone is suppose to look like the minted version.

But ya, I'd suppose you'd be right, they should have healed by now. I'll look into giving that an update
