And I have seen it. My first time watching the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Movie has happened.
I'm sitting here in a restaurant inside the mall the cinema is in and just got something from Burger King because I couldn't properly eat anymore before leaving. I got two hot dogs and a medium strawberry shake. And I got the most amazing cinema experience I ever had in my entire life.
Now I will write the promised "First Impressions" blog entry. I'm doing this on a smartphone, but I want to share these impressions while everything is still fresh.
This is not going to be a full review. I will avoid spoilers. This is just to give you an idea what you can expect.
I will list the basics of the movie in bullet points:
- The movie's length is very fitting and was chosen well. Despite the huge cast a lot were worried about, the movie does not feel cramped or rushed. Some things happen quickly, but it's done in a way that makes the fast progression realistic and believable.
- The new characters all contribute to the plot significantly. There is no need to worry about that the high-class VAs don't get enough time to shine or that their talent is wasted because of unimportant roles for their characters. They all shine and they shine a lot.
- The movie's darkness and maturity is pretty much on the level of the show. Don't expect anything overtly violent or mind-scarringly dark. DHX and Hasbro did not boost this to gain success via massive shock effects.
- It is an intense movie still and you will hold your breath a few times. There are dark moments, the plot is serious. They did not dumb it down either.
- The villains are serious and threatening. They don't mess around and they don't waste time to strike.
- A few moments that are slightly darker than the show. Slightly. Still nothing too crazy.
- One character has something VERY dark happened to them in the past. It is portrayed rather neutral, but gives you chills.
- The movie has still time for worldbuilding. A few new places we've never seen before.
- One character we already know from the show does two very bad things. But it is still in-character, given the circumstances.
- There are two more things you will not expect. Two other twists.
- One pony becomes an unexpected hero.
- Yes, there is death. I will not tell you who. However, status quo mostly remains.
Maybe you should have charged it before going to the movie. Sidetracked, Your discription sounds like the movie got very well made

I am a longtime fan of the show, for more than five and a half years now, and I love the movie, because it has an excellent plot, every element that makes the show so great, the darkest character backstory we ever saw in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, surprising twists and songs that easily reach Disney level and even surpass it.
I'm in love with Applebloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle and I hoped they would have at least a small role in the movie, but I don't have the audacity to declare the movie a bad one because it doesn't cater to my favourite ponies.
What you write here is completely subjective and can't serve as a measurement of how good the movie is and all your comments do is trying to rile someone up against the movie, because you can't cope with it that not everyone views the movie in such a superficial way.
Your last sentence is even a straight-up lie about the movie to construct yourself a convincing argument.

I apologize if I came off as trash talking. The movie would've been good as a standalone Disney movie... but that's just it. It was billed as the My Little Pony Movie. My problem with it is that it barely featured everyone's favorite ponies from the show. In my mind, that's absolutely critical for a show-based movie to be good. Perhaps it wasn't important enough for you, but for me it was a big letdown. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this point.

It's a Mane Six movie, who are fan favourites. If it would largely be centered around Starlight Glimmer, you might not complain about that, but others would.
That your personal, favourite characters don't get the big spotlight does not make the movie bad. It's a serious movie, not a fan-pandering mishmash.
And talking others into not watching it to validate your own feelings about it is nothing you have any right to, so don't make anymore stunts like this.
Sorry again if I came as an ungrateful fanboy in that thread on the movie forum as I really enjoyed the movie a lot and I just thought the thing I noticed was worth commenting on but I guessed I gave the wrong message, not the best animated movie I saw all year (I think the Lego batman movie has to have that title)
I liked the voice actors for the celebrities and their characters as well though to me at least songbird was probably the most tacked on and I honestly love hadn't heard of sia before learning she was casted

That frankly does seem to happen a lot. Happened already with another guy down there who fell into trash-talking it because his favourite characters didn't appear, so I even had to remove comments.
So, if that is any consolation, you are at least not the worst.
And for Songbird Serenade (aka Sia), I guess it's late enough now to talk a little about that without spoilering too much after almost three weeks the movie is in cinemas now and after UK's opening weekend, yes, her role irked me a little. Just a little.
She didn't invade the plot with her OC like I feared she would, but her appearance still felt heavily..... forced, I guess. You see her and you get the feeling she doesn't really live in Equestria and was never there to begin with (and instead somepony else, maybe Sapphire Shores or Coloratura).
I can take her as a means to bring the movie more attention by having her big name on it and by having the official music video of her song promoting it (it contains some movie scenes) and she did, as I said, not invade the plot at all, so I'm not too bothered.
But I still hope that a second movie, if there is going to be one someday, can garner enough attention without squeezing the OC of one of earth's popstars into it.
But that is all. No actual spoiler discussion here. The First Impressions here will still be relevant until at least a few weeks after the Australian release.
