I'll start things off with a confession. I know, I know, nothing good starts with a confession, but hear me out. I am not a "Brony". As a matter of fact, I can't stand the actual MLP show; I can't make it through an entire episode without pausing every two minutes to take a sip of beer, or whatever I'm using to cope. I just find it a bit too childish for my tastes, with none of the subtle jokes and winks and nods to older audience members that other cartoons have. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough, but that's how I feel about it.
So why am I here, on a site specifically devoted to MLP fanfiction? Because of the character Spike, mostly. His archetype, the bumbling comic relief with a heart of gold, is one that I tend to despise, but love writing about. Because I can both make him air the grievances I feel he should have, and turn him into something more than what he was designed to be.
Now to some, that means "Turn him into a Sue", but not me. I do not seek perfection; only competence. I don't want the other characters to live in his shadow; I want him to get out from under theirs. He's a freakin' DRAGON, and I want that to actually mean something.
I'm also a big fan of Princess Luna. She's the kind of naturally dark and troubled character that I gravitate towards, and I see so many potential storylines for her. And yes, I do ship..."Spina"? "Like"? "Spuna"? I don't know what the "official" term for SpikexLuna is, but I ship it. I am trash and I don't care.
