Something struck me · 7:12pm Sep 19th, 2017

So I was thinking about I Am Become Death, and how much stuff I wanted to do in the past. Then I realised something. I don’t necessarily have to write all of it before the timeskip. I can have flashbacks to key moments while in the present. Which means I may just have to do a few chapters before the timeskip.

What does everyone think? Should I skip ahead and leak past details in flashbacks or conversation? Is that a cheap tactic? Because I do want to get to some of the present day stuff.

Edit:I had to edit a tiny bit of IABD’s description about Spike because I have changed his personality a bit from when I first wrote the description.

hey that works for me and time skips if done write are pretty good way to skip a bunch of boring stuff

Works for me

And it would make sense to do it like that, considering that the MC is unageing with a hint of immortality. And we are still... what ?... 700+ years away from his little nap ? :applejackunsure:

I agree, write the story the way you want to you crazy genus! *emphasis on genus*

Your choice bro, after all I'm not the genius behind the story now am I?

That could work. He'll you could even put in a chapter of him telling a young sunset shimmer how Tia's first date went.

:pinkiegasp: That could be adorable... :pinkiehappy:

Well, it not a bad idea per say, you might miss out on some opportunities to help cement the relationships you have established. And early World building/conflict like the mist.

it could work, that way you can control the length of the flashbacks.... just promise me..... don't give him as many flashbacks as there are in Naruto

Yeah, flashbacks can be a good plot device, but an overabundance of them can be mind numbing, especially since you started the story in the past.

To be honest I don't really mind. However we wont truly see how his presence will truly effect canon until he gets there. Which given the current time period if we went chapter for chapter even a year each one would still be pretty damn ridiculous and would get repetitive(I mean one can't make up over 700 chapters of yearly things without repetition. Eventually you would run out of ideas. So feel free to time skip and have some flashbacks or conversations relating to certain important points. Such as them finding out who was behind the mist and putting a stop to it. Who knows if you want to do some chapters leading up to that maybe make it so he ends up using so much power he ends up taking a 700+ year power nap.

I'd like to see a few more chapters before the time skip and we will need to see how him and celly get together :pinkiehappy:

I don't think it's a cheap tactic if a lot of people have done it before it's just common.

That’s the plan.I’m trying to organise things. I want to get to the present but I want to get certain things done first. It’s rather difficult.

Well if you do go and do the flashbacks it will give you more wiggle room

Hmmmm true. Maybe a cut of point before things go to shit in the past.

“What were you dreaming about?”

“Times before everything went wrong...”

Yo just have to make sure you do the flashbacks right, trust me when you do them wrong it kinda ruins the story as you just get lost.

That done well could work, just remember it is your story and write it how you wish to.

Works for me, though you still need to tie up a few ends in the past before we jump to the present. Otherwise your golden, flashbacks will probably work well if all goes as planned.

Works for me, just try not to make it disorienting. Also, can you please not make him banished/sealed away... it's ssssoooooooo overused.

that works, or do few story like I am death is about past and few time skip like key one fall of the crystal empire, nightmare moon rise, then the next story be set in cannon of the show like first few part of the show then skip around to major one or important one.
