The names of our last months of the year and how they don't make sense · 5:24am Sep 16th, 2017

You read that right, so I'll elaborate. September, October, November and December are the last 4 months of the year, everyone know this. What most of your probably don't know is that their names are effectively meaningless now, once again I promise to explain. September literally means the 7th month, October literally means the 8th month, November literally means the 9th month and December literally means the the 10th month. Every other month of the was either added in by the Romans, see the months of July and August and the history behind those 2 for more on that subject, or had their names outright changed, see January through June and the history behind the names of those months for more on that front. The moths of January on through June were part of the original 10 months, with the final four months being the rest of it all. July and August were literally shunted into the middle of the year by the Romans with little to no regard for the dynamics of the existing months up to the points the new moths were introduced. Now, while the first 6 months of the year had their names changed for various reason that are difficult, if not outright impossible, to track through history this trend stopped before it could get to the final 4 months. As to why? Your guess is good mine on that front. But as it stands the month that literally says in its name that it is the 7th month is the 9th on our calendar while the original 9th is now the 11th month with the original 10th month now being the 12th month.

So, here's a question for you, why didn't the final 4 get their names changed to help keep things from confusion? Does anyone have any suggestions on what we can rename them? Please give a summary why if you do.

For September: Minarva as to balance March as March was the month for the Roman god Mars and was the month the fields were sowed before the soldiers went off to war, this would mark the end of the campaign season and time to prepare for the harvest.

For October: the a Demeter to signify the harvest

November... got nothing

December: based off of Pluto or Persphanie the god of the underworld or his queen to signify the end of tge year.

Going with the whole Roman theme of the other months.

Well, all the named months of year do seem to follow a Roman theme. For some reason I want to have November's rename to keep the N, probably some irrational desire to hold onto the existing iteration. A part of my wants to make a full change, maybe have start with an F or G for some reason.

You DO know that there WERE originally only ten months counted in a year, right?
The current seventh and eighth months were added later to honour the Emperors Julius Caesar (thus we have the month of July) and Caesar Augustus (the month of August).

He does, it's the origins of the names that is so convoluted.

I actually made mention of the fact there were originally 10 months in the opening bit. I don't have too much of an issue there being more months than there used to be, my real issue is nobody changed the names of the months themselves after the new months were forced in before them.
