My Thoughts on Destiny 2 · 4:18pm Sep 13th, 2017

Attention, this is only my personal opinion. Please do not take this as me being a critique as I would never in my life go to that area.

I played the first Destiny quite a bit, and though I liked it I did have some problems. While the game had great combat, its story didn't feel very strong, and I couldn't remember a single piece of music. Sure the game looked great but like many before it if you don't have a great story some people won't be interested. So when going into Destiny 2, I didn't expect all that much, but immediately I was proven wrong.

As soon as you start up the game it goes through a flash of the many raids, strikes, and of course the campaigns. I only played to the second DLC but seeing these things made me happy in a way the first game never did. It felt like I actually accomplished something and was recognized for it, something that the first game didn't really do all that much. Not only that, but seeing my Exo hunter from the last game return in this one was a pure surprise, as I had expected them to have you make an entirely new character.

Gameplay is still just as good as the first game and the worlds are still beautiful (titan being my favorite), but the greatest thing Destiny 2 did was how it did it's story and music. First off, music. The orchestral sounds of many tracks in the game are some of the best I've seen from a western video game, and the ambient sounds of other tracks while not as solid make for a great feeling of tension. One the other hand the story is incredibly well down. I love the more serious tone of the game, and it flows so much better. However, that is nothing compared to the game's prologue.

My god Destiny 2's prologue, it's one of the best starts I've seen from any game in the past few months that I have played. The attack on the city, having the light taken away from you, all of it is just awe inspiring. That said the first two missions are nothing compared to the third mission in the game: Adieu.

Adieu is one of the most emotional moments I’ve seen a game be able to pull of in its first hour in a long time. Starting off as your hunter wakes up to see the city over run with cabal, no music playing. No weapons, no light, you simply limp your way till you find your ghost who tells you he can heal you, only to mention right after how he can no longer revive you. That's when journey hits, one of the best songs in the game from what I have played so far. It starts off so somber with nothing but a quartet of strings as you walk away from everything you know because it's become too dangerous. As you go, the the strings get louder, a chorus starts, and the sound of kickdrums drown out the very gunfire you spray as you go from a camp of dead hunters to a snowy cliffside. It’s a fantastic start to a game that addresses all the issues of the first while dramatically improving on what it’s prequel did well.

I want to quickly say how unsure I was about doing this post, mostly because of how I’ve dealt with reviewers in the past and how I can’t stand most review companies out there. That said, I don’t want you to see this as a review but rather as my own personal opinion. Opinions are the thoughts of one person and something that many might not agree with, while a review seems to be a single person trying to be a majority while in the end they simply state their own thoughts in the end. If you don’t like Destiny 2, I understand, because these are simply my thoughts and I don’t want you all to see this as me critiquing something. That said I enjoyed the time I’ve spent with Destiny 2 so far and hope to continue enjoying it till the finish. Bungie is one of the few companies next to Square Enix and Nintendo that I truly trust, because they learn from their mistakes and make what fans want. I’m not giving this a score or a number of stars, but if you enjoyed the first Destiny than you will enjoy this game.

Also, sorry for not uploading any new chapters recently, from working with Overmare Studios (yes, I just read that correctly), school, Cross Country, and not having a damn bluetooth keyboard anymore for my IPad mini writing has been absurdly slow. I promise to have something before the end of the year up and I hope you all enjoy it. I will also say that I really enjoyed writing this and might make it a thing, but please remember that I’m only expressing my own opinion and I’m not in anyway a critique.

With that, I’ll see you all in the hopeful future. May the light guide you.

Really shaping up on the diction, Vaati! I can tell you're on your way to journalism.

That is actually my dream when I grow up. Not a reviewer because I would never forgive myself if I did but still being a journalist is definitly my dream.

Edit: I just realized who I'm talking. Didn't recognize you with the different icon.

Heh, no issue. Always a joy to read the stuff you write, btw. Hope everything's going well.
