A Non-Pony Story · 5:24pm Sep 1st, 2017

Don't worry:

If the idea of glass spiders makes you uncomfortable. Moira, the lead character in my latest non-Pony story, "On the Ontology of Glass Spiders," feels the same way. In her case, though, the concept is slightly more than theoretical...

I wrote the first draft of this for the Writeoff Association's original fic contest It's a Long Way Down back in May where it placed 4th. Using the comments I got there and the comments from my real-life writing group, I revised and expanded the story, and now thanks to the fine folks at the webzine Aurora Wolf, you can read the finished version!

A great read. I love how you used the theme of sibling interdependency, whether social or neural.

Dang, that's good. I'd freak out in that situation, straight to the funny farm and the long coat.

Thanks, folks!

I have an older sister and two younger brothers. I'd hate to think where I'd be today if not for them...

I seem to have a tendency to tell stories about creatures who inspire emotion in my readers. I mean, half the time, when a new acquaintance learns that I write stories about a sorcerous squirrel, I get regaled with tales of the depredations squirrels have wrecked upon someone's home or yard. Apparently, it's a jungle out there.

Great story. Not entirely how I expected it to go at any point. Heartwarming ending. Thumbs up!

Thanks!

As long as where it went made some sort of sense, then I'm happy. :scootangel:

Hrm. I was being terse, and that rarely comes out quite the way it was intended. To clarify the compliment, it was never, "<Yawn> totally saw where that was going. Why am I reading this again?" but rather, "Ooh, that's clever. Heh, I wasn't quite expecting that. That's an interesting idea!" For example, I don't think I've ever seen a character say (paraphrasing slightly), "But I don't want to be a clichéd mad scientist!" It went to a totally cute and heartwarming place, which is one of my favorite places and definitely makes "some sort of sense".
