    What I would do differently

As my main account announced, the Shooting stars fic is done and cancelled. And in it's place is something new. At the same time, a certain writer released season 10 of starfleet. and that got me thinking...what would I do differently.

OOOPS! Sorry, kind of forgot about something important.

Sorry, but when your dream (A Sonic movie that did well and made big) came true you kind of frogot. Well, that and having some fun on other sites picking apart some new targets. And weapon making.

    More on weapon making later.

    Evolution new chapter!

Yay, a new chapter. No, I havent' watched all of the finale though I was spoiled and it ended the way I wanted it to.

But, you are probably wondering why it took me over a year to finish. Well, it's a long story, and no it doesn't really have anything to do with my burnout or annoyance.

Starfleet Humans and plot holes: Episode V Empire Strikes Back · 9:18pm Aug 30th, 2017

You might wonder why a lot of these seem focused on Susnet to start and then we work our way down. That is because 48% of the plot holes revolve  around her, the other 48% are about to be discussed, and 6% are the rest of the stuff I have yet to discuss.

You know the difference between Sunset and Sharpey? Sharpey, is not a genius, at all. She is a prima donna, a fashionn queen, and what I feared Rarity would be if I never watched “Dog and Pony Show.” I could describe her in a lot of ways, but being a manipulative girl is not one of them. And that leads to the central problem with Sunset and her being able to break up the humane six and the rest of the plan.

Now, we know Sunset is supposed to be smart and so we can assume that she was able to doctor stuff. Ignoring the third film (Where we find out she is a learn by doing type of girl and not a book girl...strangely that was something I had guessed about her back in 2013.) We know that she is an opposite Twilight, so she had to try to do stuff more than reading, wich means that she would know more. So, why describe her as annoying and an idoit in your story? All this does is make it seem illogiacl that she could ruin friendships like she did wiht the humane six.

Worst yet, it doesn’t make sense as to WHY she did it. It was Starla who took her spot, not the others. If it was Twilight, yeah, I could understand that. But this was with Starla, someone who was not affilated with the girls. She essitentally went after innocents for no real reason at all.

But wait, what about the movie, why did she go after them at that point. Well, that is left up to debate. If you are like me and want to go dark and go with the anti-Twilight route, then the answer is simple...to prove she could do it. She wanted to mess with the girls just because she knew she could and wanted to see her power at her fullest. She wanted to rule and show off that she could destroy even the strongest bonds. Or, this was just another way to mess with Rarity.

Now, again, if this is the ‘stupid’ Sunset we are led to believe, then why was she able to sneak and be crafty? This is what happens when you write character traits that fail to synch up with what we know about the character. This makes us wonder how this Sunset was able to do anything in cannon or why.

Worse yet, it makes us symptahsize with her, because beyond the bulling at the beggingn...I see nothing but a girl who might geniuenly want a friend but is getting shunned by everyone. Gee...there is a character like that on Masked Rider named Molly who everyone treated like shit because...she was an airhead.

This makes me think of Lighting Dawn as is presented in this fic. Now, let’s be real here, even in the opening season of cannon he was a jerk and this went on through the show. He routinly abuses his parents death and makes others feel bad. He uses his superority without thinking about it, and continues to act like he is better than everyone else, forgetting his friends as often as he can. Hell, he even ignores his wife at points.

Lighting: Sorry about that boss.

It’s ok Lighting.

But this...it’s like if I really wanted to write a hate fic about Lighting Dawn and forget everything I knew about character development or caring. Somehow, Lighting goes from being a cocky ‘good soldier’ to being an arrogant jerkwad who cares about nothing but himself and his friends. I can understand alternate self, but this is not even that. This is supposed to be the cannon Lighting Dawn as is.

See, one of the things I will compliment the original EQG movie on is this when it comes to Flashlight...it was small and in the background. Not once did I feel like Twilight had changed much in her journey through the portal, she was just experiencing weird hormones. Hey, it happens, she never really had much male interaction beyond her brother, so I was ok with a little tease here and there. At least it wasn’t like Winx Club where it was so prevalent that it dominated the show and took away the character development. At most, it was more like W.I.T.C.H where the romance took the back seat to the search for the princess.

Lighting on the other hand, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he just said, “Flip it. I’ staying here.” From the first time he abuses his super strength to win the games, to the point where he uses his herefore unexplained “Super learning” to be a great drama guy, he shows almost nothing of the Lighting from the mane series. Hell, he even brags about how much he is fitting in the real world and almost regrets having to come back.

Again, compare to Twilight who had her eyes on the prize the ENTIRE time. She only helped her friends because, hey, they are alternate versions of her friends. Superman would do no less, and neither would Spider-Man.

I think it reaches it’s apex when Lighting got Celestia fired for doing her job.  See, even Lighting at his dumbest in the cannon would use a little common sense, and have a little respect for authority (IT is this respect that got Twilight killed! Lighting: SORRY! How many times must you make me say it!) but here? That goes out the window as we see Lighting: Assult a teacher, use rage uncontrollably, but not before using her dead horse as  a weapon. All this did was make him seem cruel in the eyes of the reader, and frankly OOC.

Also, for all of his believing, did you notice that he does something Twilight never did...he says, “Maybe I should run home.”

----------------------

Actually, while I am still here, there is another character I want to discuss...Buddy Rose.

Yes, I know he makes little to no impact on the story, is bearly in it, and is a bigger background pony than Applejack, but there is something I want to talk about here. See, this fic came out after season 2 of Starfleet, wherein a side character that I seem to forget about a lot but want to make an effore to remember appears: Daphine Dill. Buddy’s cousin, who he is the only family she has right now.

Now, if you read the fic, you’ll see that she is missing until at least the Power Rangers story. This is a problem on so many levels. First, it seems that in the opposite of my thoughts of the team all living in GR’s mansion, they live alone in thier own homes and have full time jobs to support those homes. This...is a big problem.

How is Buddy supporting her like that? Shouldn’t he be a little worried that he is the only one to care for her, at an high school lever? I know this may seem small, but this is a really big issue for me. Buddy is right now a single father and there is no follow up, no problems, and nothing to show his own personal issues with that. Child services should at least e notified about this!

I am sorry, but you do not introduce an aspect of a character and expect me a reader to forget this exsists!

To be honest, this is why creating a villain you hate on a personal level fails.
I create my villains to be absolute scum from Derpy's abusive aunt to Fleur's attempted rapist to the stallion who runs a Bedlam House-equivalent to a millennia-old alicorn-hunting mercenary leader.
But I enjoy writing them because it's inherently fun to bait the audience. By giving the villains moments of victory, you make the readers sympathise and support the heroes, longing for the moment when they overpower their foe.
If you go from start to finish making the villain fail in everything, giving them no form of strength or fortune and just have them beaten down by the heroes before actually doing much damage, you just make people feel sorry for them.
It's what happened to Team Rocket. Even if you don't want them to succeed, you at least want them to get close just to see things escalate. Just to see a break from routine and see the heroes work harder than ever to save the day.
If the heroes are only ones pulling the punches, they just look like bullies.
And now, no other word epitomises Lightning Dawn and his Starfleet cronies than 'Bullies'.
Bullies who hate characters and routinely victimise them for little more reason than for being different, being something they don't like, being something they can't understand and just generally existing.
That's failing to a whole new level.

Once again, really good analysis on the contradictions of Mykan's work.

that's unintentionally sympathetic at its finest

To be honest, this is why creating a villain you hate on a personal level fails.

I feel the same way, as I like creating a variety of villians that usually go with the scene: From the downright evil Kudos, to the fun and card ccarrying villiany of Conquest, and then the mastermind type of villian with Titan. I love going through the villians that match up with the greats that inspired me through childhood (Joker, Skeletor, and Dr.Doom)

Thanks. Somehow, these anylasises have been helping with Evolution of Friendship.

4653248 It makes sense, the point of Fall of Starfleet is to show where Mykan's characters fail while the FiM characters succeed while telling a compelling story with interesting action sequences.

4653248
you forgot the anti-villain likeness of the glorious titan trio, the enemy of my enemy situation with dusk and the brainwashed Fratello or the tragic figure that is Raven Wing

there are so many things wrong with the Starfleet Humans thing in general, let me just make a bucket list of plot holes

1. Starfleet Humans is jsut a rehash of the first EQG movie and High school Musical
Let me come out clean here: I am not a fan of HSM. But I know its main plot. And the first EQG movie, while nothing offensive in my eyes was a flawed cash in with many plotholes regarding Sunset's role as a "serious" villain and how she could even think of certain ideas for her "master plan" to get the crown, if she hadn't been in Equestria for years.

But Mykan's story somehow manages to combine both and not for the better.
Lightning's entire "go to another dimension and get your Rainbow Rod back" plot and making friends with alternate universe versions of his friends is obviously just stolen form EQG, highlighting once more how Mykan is not creating anything "better" than what MLP did, when he is just reenacting almost every main beat form the original story.

But then he makes it even worse by putting all the vapid plot elements from the first HSM into it, to tell a story that really is just filler for his "own" plot. the stage play, the basketball game... they are obvious elements of the original HSM.

2. Why did the villain of the original Starfleet Humans kill Celestia's horse years ago?
It just doesn't make sense. There was nothing to gain form it, not even symbolic "revenge" on Celesto by making Celestia emotionally suffer, cause Celesto in that universe was not even a threat to her or a rival. He was a stable boy.

3. Celesto turning form a stable boy into an astronaut and later a rich businessman.
Already tackled by Legendbringer, so I am not putting it up again in detail. The line of events still doesn't really add up much.

4. Super Intendant Celesto?
I think Mykan gneuinely believes that Super Intendants own schools instead of being just bureaucrats who ahve a certain authority over the principal. The only way how he could have the power to get celestia fired as he does and everything else is if it was a private school and he is the head of the school board. And even then any freaking school board would consider of more members who would probably protest his decisions.

5. How does the Rainbow Rod become a price in a basketball game.
The dumbest thing ever in my opinion. A perosn finds what looks like a treasure or at least an ugly but expensive piece of jewelry in a city park and instead of bringing it to the police or a museum to get it analyzed, it becomes without a problem property of a school board and a price for a basketball game?
Mykan would probably try to justify it by saying, that twilight's crown also simply became a price at a prom, but here are differences:
As McCarthy and others made clear, the reason why Twilight's crown was also mistaken in the EQG universe as a school prom price was, because in that universe a look alike of her element of magic was actually intented to be given out at the ball formal. In fact, Sunset Shimmer tried to replace the original with the fake while she was in Equestria.
As such it is logical that when Fluttershy found the crown, she mistook it for the school prom price and as such brought it back to Celestia who put it in a safe.

Here there is no reason why anyone should believe the Rainbow Rod is "only" a price for some high school athletes.

6. Why the heck did Lightning risk losing the basketball game
Another example of how dumb Lightning as a hero and strategist is, considering the only reason he did what I am about to describe just because the author has seen that kind of cliche in some children movie and wanted to put it in to convince everyone he is not hating on the EQG versions as much or something.
Lightning needs to win the basketball game and get the Rainbow Rod back. Otherwise he is in trouble and the villains have a powerful artifact at their disposal. His team still needs to make a coupe of points to win the basketball game and there are only seconds left.
And yet he decides to give up suddenly, faking an injury, just so that Rainbow Dash has a shot at making the final point?
I find that dumb and to a certain degree condescending.
Dumb because he risks of losing everything and condescending, because he does this only now, because he was too arrogant and self absorbed to see that his "superior power play" made the others on the team feel worthless to the point they had no fun at the game at all. So in other words, it is now a pity move.
What a dick.

7. Twilight in a coma
The entire insertion of Twilight in this EQG-prequel that is Starfleet Humans 1 just doesn't make sense and is the result of Mykan misunderstanding and misinterpreting a line Pinkie made whens he first met Twilight. That she thinks she saw a girl just like her with a dog just like spike somewhere else. For any being with a brain that is not rotting from autism and other mental disorders, this is a fun line to put a lampshadehanging on the fact we won't see a human counterpart in this movie or universe yet.
For Mykan it was a reason to invent a human six backstory that does not exist and clashes with everything the first EQG movie established. Like that the friends knew each other for a long time, that they did not know anyone known as Twilight Sparkle and that bad blood existed thanks to Sunset for a long time.

In Mykan's story Sunset creates the bad blood like only two weeks before EQG's plot is set into action and a human version of Twilight supposedly already went to school and is put in a coma.
Would beg questions as of why no one than asks in EQG's how Twilight got better that easily, doesn't it? Typical plot hole creation by Mykan, ebcause he can't even understand a movie for four year olds.
Also, how come that none of her friends would visit her in the hospital?
Lets fac eit: Mykan only wrote the coma shit so he can masturbate to the idea of her in a coma like she is Asuka and he is Shinji ikari. Which the more I think about it, is a good way to descirbe Mykan. He is real life Shinji Ikari.

4653708
didnt the protagonist tell celestia it was good her pet died?

4654001
Yep, our hero everyone.

4654030
wait. really?
One might think the logic thing is him giving at least emotional support...

4657366
It's Starfleet Magic, logic is pummeled into the ground several times over.

4657368
holy smokes you are fast!

Still... its just so.... egh....
Im so glad Legbie,Corny and Scip and you and the rest of you guys exist
