    Arms and Armament

So, I was catching up on some blog posts this morning, and happened upon one which discussed the way objects can reflect characters, and happened to use their choices of weapons as an example. Which set me off down the track of contemplating what, in Equestria's earlier and rather rougher pieces of history, might our favorite protagonists arm themselves with should such warlike preparations be

    Color Coordination

Given the full-spectrum range of coat and mane colors among Equestrian ponies, can you imagine the trouble planners of any sort of public event that needs a seating chart must have? Not only do they have to take into account all the same considerations that we do, but Earthly event planners don't have to worry about accidentally creating eye-wateringly bad color combinations by accident.

    Military Controversy

Is the basic earth pony military unit infantry, or cavalry?

Please overthink as much as possible, then justify your answers.

    A Few Words

I've been conlanging some more, and since some of the words this time are of Advancedverse relevance, thought I'd drop a pointer here.

Generating Ponies With Neural Networks · 9:49pm Aug 28th, 2017

In today's fascinating find on the Internet:

New My Little Ponies, designed by neural network

Definite partial success there for people looking for new OC names, but for me, some of the real treasures are found in the not-quite lists the neural net came up with, like the badass ("no offense!"): Cold Sting, Shoot Bolt, Sunder Bright, and the like, although "Deader Pony" evidently demonstrates that red coats may work like red shirts.

And then there's the just plain off:

  • Marina Doof (whose special talent is falling off docks)
  • Pony Pony (whose special talent is being generic; he can fill in for anyone, poorly)
  • Apple Apple (the recursive cousin!)
  • Flint Cream and Rocky Scoop (the other Pie relatives who went into confectionary - but didn't leave the rock farm entirely behind)
  • Bunny Maze (studies animal intelligence)
  • Agar Swirl (biologist, and don't eat anything she gives you)
  • Clotter (paramedic?)
  • Princess Sweat (!!!)

Blue Cuss may well have made it into my headcanon, as essentially a more profane and less polite version of Sugarcoat. She got her cutie mark after an unfortunate incident with a mis-swung hammer, or possibly a dropped piano. (Hilariously, there is probably a universe shard somewhere where she's the Element of ProfanityHonesty.)

...my application for the unfit-to-print names is still in progress, so I'll get back to you on those.

Let's see...

Sunferry would work very well in a more Egyptian-themed Equestria. Someone's got to steer the solar barque.
Starlich seems like one that's going to crop a few hundred years after ponies join the Associated Worlds. Likewise Nandy Quark.
Sanderlash seems like the code asked the Pokémon generator for a name.
Tasting Spar likely developed the pony version of Iron Chef.
Cheese Breeze... I'm just going to note the pony's name and move on.
I wouldn't be surprised if one of the raver ponies from "The Saddle Row Review" called herself Lace Crunk.

Most amusing all around. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe she had a piano dropped near her when she was younger.

I can't help but wonder if Princess Sweat is somehow related to Princess Fartsock...
