FMF 27: 25 August 2017 · 2:40am Aug 26th, 2017
Hey guys. Terribly sorry for yet another long and unexplained wait. Maybe one day I'll manage to get on top of my work instead of letting it pile up on top of me. The piece I was working on turned out to be deeply personal for both me and a close friend. I wanted to get the message portrayed as accurately yet as powerfully as I could, thus the delay. As for the FMF's, well, the part at the bottom that's supposed to show my progress kinda discouraged me from typing up new FMF's. Each week, it would have been "Yeah... This week, I only logged a hundred words. Sorry."
But, yeah, I'm working out the last scene now, and after that I'll devote my full attention to History Reimagined. At the same time, in the world of the non-ponies, I'm transferring colleges. And that comes with some bad news. I've somehow managed to find an even stricter Christian college then the one I'm transferring out of. There's rumors and whisperings among my friends that the campus proxy has a hard-line ban on YouTube in general. That would rather make future FMF's a near-impossibility. If that's the case, I'll see if I can't go off campus and maybe see about doing something that way.
But right now, I'm in a hotel and the semester hasn't started yet. I haven't signed my life away to a rulebook as thick as last semester's college math textbook (I'm not exaggerating by much), so let's get this hopefully-not-the-last FMF underway.
While not a fan-made song, it is a very well-done SMF PMV by the extraordinarily talented Herostrain. This PMV depicts the fall of Luna and the rise of Nightmare Moon, and also it features an eclipse. #relevant As a creative writer, it has long been a goal of mine to use my writing as a platform to help others see a point of view. For instance, History Lesson serves to better flesh out Starlight's motives and prove to the skeptics that, yes, Starlight did actually have good intentions. She just got lost along the way. When her redemption arc isn't boxed in by 45-minute limitations, her transition from fallen anti-hero to ally of the protagonist is much more gradual and therefore more natural. There's something about telling a story that just makes me feel like I've contributed some small way to the fandom and to my readers--and, really, to the show's writers as well--whether that goal be achieved by helping a reader better understand Starlight, of by giving Starlight a means by which she might "earn" her spot at Twilight's side through setting her up to fix the things she broke and thereby enriching her redemption arc.
