Death And Magic: My Thoughts On How It Works In Fallout: Equestria · 7:24pm Aug 18th, 2017
While I am sure Kkat has her own thoughts on this subject here are mine on how I confront the problem with death and magic in the Equestrian Wasteland.
Firstly, what must be said that magic kind of offers a loophole by which the rules of nature can be manipulated often to the point of violating some of the more concrete truths of the world such as when you die that's it. Its a one way trip from which you never return. With magic in the world of MLP and FOE this doesn't necessarily have to be the case. I believe that because magic exists within the fundemental makeup of the world of Equestria that it can in some cases return the dead to the land of the living via a couple of ways.
One way would be as a disembodied spirit roaming the Equestrian Wasteland. When I wrote my Fallout: Equestria side fiction story The Airborne Chronicles, I mixed in other post-apocalyptic themes I enjoyed from other games just as Kkat had done with the original Fallout: Equestria story. In this case I borrowed the idea of ghosts from the Metro video game series. Like the Fallout video game series, Metro takes place in a post-apocalyptic Russia after a nuclear holocaust has devastated the world and where all survivors live underground in the former subway systems beneath Moscow. The world of Metro was broken the day the bombs fell and nature itself has become twisted. Often when you are exploring the dank abandoned tunnels you will come across shadows of people often performing the tasks they once did in life such as guarding a barricade or overseeing a triage. These moments will only last as long as a few seconds but they add a creepiness to the already depressing atmosphere of the game.
In some ways I imagine the Equestrian Wasteland to be haunted by the thousands of ponies who died both during the war and on the Last Day and in the subsequent years since the blast. Unable to find rest they haunt locations they once frequented in life or visit distant descendants in an eternal vigil over their families. For Airborne, his journey takes him to the edge of death a couple of times. How this happens I will not say as to not reveal any spoilers to potential readers who have yet to delve into my stories but it marks him in ways you wouldn't expect and he meets a member of his family who has had the greatest impact on shaping his identity.
Some beings in Equestria in my mind have the ability to distort death to their own advantage these beings are powerful magical creatures. I don't need to name one particular God Of Disharmony but I could easily see him breaking the laws of nature and resurrecting the dead.
One of the other ways I could see somepony coming back to life is if they commit an act of virtue or self-sacrifice where they display the courage to do what is right. Given the values expressed in the show Equestria itself might recognize somepony as worth of bringing back from the dead. Not that this has been something Kkat has stated as being even possible but it isn't necessarily outside of the realm of possibility when it comes to what is possible with the deep magic in Equestria. So these are my ideas regarding this topic. What do you think? Agree or Disagree?
