Reference Art showcase! (Made fun of Green yesterday, now it's my turn!) · 10:54pm Aug 12th, 2017

Look at this piece of s:yay:t...

...and you will know why I don't do my own illustrations for The Iron Horse.

Okay, so first off, thanks to everyone who showed up to Green's anniversary stream yesterday. We had fun hanging out with you!

So, yesterday I was discussing one of Greenfinger's "happy little accidents," and teasing about how sometimes he misreads descriptions. Toward that end, I've occasionally tried to show him what I want visually when words seem to fail or when what I'm after is something very specific. See that horrible drawing up there? That's the reference for when 002 is first revealed. From that and some description, we got this:

So, as another peek behind the curtain, here are some more awful pieces of reference art done by me along with the finished products done by Greenfinger. Hope you enjoy it, and feel free to laugh at how awful my pitiful drawings are.

Concept for Turing's wings:

Final version:

Turing Test stargazes (at the end of "Touch"):

Final Version:

Layout for Turing's "sexy pose" for Big Mac:

Final Version:

Dinner with the Apples layout:

Final Version:

Cobbler meets the golem (Unit Zero):

Final Version:

Turing and 001 in hallway:

Final Version:

Okay, now... these next three I'm almost proud of. And now that I think about that, it's even sadder... :fluttershysad: (but at least they led to some awesome final versions!)

"Brainflush" Concept:

Final Version:

Turing Toast prototype:

Final Version:

The New Dawn Over Canterlot Gardens (yes, I actually drew this crappy drawing by hand and tried to color it :twilightblush:)

Final Version:

Welp, that's it for now, folks! New chapter should drop tomorrow and a new illustration with it! Expect more blog posts about the story as we near the final chapter! Oh, and if you haven't ever perused Green's other work, check out the official Iron Horse Gallery!

Ok, that Turing Toast one is adorable!

You do better with real media than with MS Paint.
I briefly attempted to draw cartoon type figures, and found that I got my best results by lightly penciling the figure, erasing the botched parts (lather-rinse-repeat) then inking the final result and erasing the remaining pencil marks... Then scanning the inked drawing and coloring it in Gimp. Now you know why I quit. The results still stunk and it was a lot of work!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUR ART IS BRILLIANT

Hope you enjoy it, and feel free to laugh at how awful my pitiful drawings are.

I did. :twilightsheepish:
(The toaster one wasn't too shabby though.)

Brain flush is the masterpiece in my opinion, the culmination of past experiences and the revelation of a sleeping soul.

Also...

Big Mac: (not sure if want):rainbowlaugh:
