Bronycon Thursday day: escape room? · 10:02pm Aug 9th, 2017
Just landed in Baltimore! And noticed via the Bronycon web site that there's a local escape room giving con discounts. Sounds like a fun way to burn a Thursday afternoon. Is anyone who's here already, or by Thursday morning, interested in teaming up and doing some puzzle solving? After the con discount it would work out to a little over $20/person; can take a group of up to eight (the more people you have, the more brainpower you can apply to each puzzle within the one-hour time limit).
The escape room's website is here and they're about seven blocks from the convention center. I called and they have plenty of spots open for 1 pm, which would get out in time to line up for con registration at 3.
If this sounds cool but you're not around Thursday, I brought an escape room puzzle card game that's pretty faithful to the experience, and I had a lot of fun with it when I played. I can haul it out later in the weekend.

Ferret is organizing a Thursday evening aquarium trip, if that counts as decompression. Otherwise there will probably be partying/bar-hopping late. Quietly sitting in your room to recuperate is also pretty underrated.

The dude I talked to at the escape room place said their completion rate is about 35% to 45% depending on which one you do.

I get the sense that it gives prizes the same way your average puzzle video game gives prizes, to wit, it doesn't. Basically it's like playing a puzzle game, except they turned it into an IRL social event instead of a single player vs. computer thing.

Heads up: I just found out the escape room people are actually doing an at-con thing in addition to their usual games at their own building! It'll be quicker and less involved, and probably super packed, but it's worth seeing if you can register for it when you get your con badge.
Our group is about to hit the 1 pm escape room. Railroad themed. I'll let you know how it goes.
