Horses sweat!
Yeah yeah yeah, sounds pretty mundane or obvious I know, but I never thought about it! All of the pony stories out there, including my own, involve ponies sweating and stuff. Today, though, I thought about it, and considering a lot of animals with fur can't sweat (for example: dogs and cats), I thought "can horses?" Well apparently they can! I think that's because horses really don't have fur (please stop referring it as fur in your stories please, it isn't! Coat or hair works quite nicely), and that means they have sweat glands, but I'm not certain.
WHAT DO I LOOK LIKE!? A ZOOLOGIST!?
It's true, horses and ponies alike don't have fur, it's hair! Especially their mane, but their coat is also hair. XD So hey, wow! They can sweat! O: Looks like the show wasn't incorrect whenever the characters were sweating. xD

I admit, I have no idea what the difference is! Does hair just have... you know... boom: hair; while fur has various layers, like the more down textured hair with more course hair on top, or am I missing something?
411681 I'm not sure, actually! In example, when dogs have hair as opposed to fur, they don't shed. Yet, I don't know! I think the fibres and layers of hair and fur differ!
...Research time. xD
411681 Not an expert here, but I think while hair can grow indefinitely, fur reaches a certain length and then falls out. From a biological standpoint it's all exactly the same.

Then what about the hair on your arms? I don't have to constantly trim that shit.
411736 Hair follicles alternate between Growth phases and Rest phases. During a growth phase, the hair is constantly growing longer. During the rest phase, the shaft of the hair breaks and it falls out. The growth phase for your arm hair follicles is about a couple months, while the ones on your head go for years at a time.

... did you look this up, or did you just spout this out of your brain just like that?

Good answer!
Now... what movie is that from... hmm...
411769 The first Short Circuit. (I knew that one off the top of my head
)
So, we can conclude fur is just a fancy name for fuzzy animal hair or what? Because if biologically they are the same and there are no other distinguishable traits then I see no difference other than name
411779 Pretty much, yeah. It just has different behaviors to ours, like synchronized shedding and in some cases, a shift in pigment (melanin) between seasons.
411775 THAT'S what it was called! I was pretty sure on that, but couldn't remember the name!
411779 So... Fuzzy Wuzzy, the Bear, has fur then? Or does he?
