From the Notebook DC Crossover Idea: Doctor Fate

Here’s another idea I wanted to get down after a very busy day. It’s another DC Comics crossover that I don’t think I’ll ever try to work out.

This one is about Doctor Fate. The sorcerer supreme of DC. The Lord of Order. The guy with the fancy gold helmet.

    Help Finding a Story

I know it’s weird to post something like this in a blog, but I tried a group forum and got no answer, so I figured why not try here?

Hi, everybody! I know it’s been a long time. It’s the usual mess. But I wanted to say that Aces High chapter 5 will be out tomorrow, somewhere either around noon-ish, or between noon and one, Eastern time.

The Great Tabloid Disater: Deleted Scene (From Chapter 2)

This was originally going to be in chapter 2, and I’d written it to completion, but my proofreader, the ever-talented Setokaiva, told me it was unnecessary when combined with the other scenes, and I saw his point. So, I took it out and edited bits and pieces of it into the remaining scenes.

Progress Update 07/19/17 and Comic Book Talk: DC/Looney Tunes Crossovers · 3:10am Jul 20th, 2017

So, still working on the next chapter. Actually, I'm considering splitting the content I have right now. With the scenes I have, Word is telling me it's 11, 254 words, and I still have a ways to go on what I have planned. But I'll still hacking away at it.

In other news, I wanted to talk about some of the things I've been reading as of late. I like comics, though most of my interest when I was a kid was in the adaptations. I'm more of a DC fan than Marvel, so I was a big fan of the DC animated shows.

I have read quite a few DC comics as of the last.... I don't even know. Mostly I collect trade paperbacks. Anyway, in late June, I saw an add for something DC did that caught my attention.

That being.... DC/Looney Tunes crossovers.

Now legally speaking, it's easy for them to do that. DC is owned by Time Warner after all. But this was an ad for a series of six one shots, two released starting June 14, with two more released one week after that, and two more after that another week later.

The content? Well, Martian Manhunter/Marvin the Martian. Lobo/Road Runner. Bugs Bunny/The Legion of Superheroes. Wonder Woman/Tazmanian Devil. Jonah Hex/Yosemite Sam. And last but not least, Batman/Elmer Fudd.

Now you may think to yourself, these ideas sound utterly stupid. A Batman and Elmer Fudd crossover where Elmer hunts the Batman? That's insanity. There's no way that could be good. And you're totally right in thinking that. To be honest, I thought that. But morbid curiosity got the better of me, particularly when I saw the preview pages for the digital copy of the Batman comic.

And you know what? After that one, I bought them all. They. Are. Amazing.

The Bugs Bunny/Legion comic definitely takes a parody route. But that was the first. But all the others? They play their main stories straight. The art is different, non-Looney Tunes, and each one tells a serious story with some good drama at times, and they all work despite the insanity.

In fact, the Batman/Elmer comic is probably the BEST of the bunch. It's truly amazing. And better yet, it's written by the main writer for the Batman book right now, Tom King. I also particularly love the Wonder Woman one. It's great. And all the comics have a small backup story that's like eight pages, more humorous and done in traditional Looney Tunes style.

Seriously, I recommend checking them out. You can try hunting down physical issues of each of them, or you could buy them digitally through comixology. I did both. Finding a copy of the Batman comic with the original cover that was in good shape was a pain though. But take a look.

And if you still don't believe me, then here's a link to the Batman comic: https://www.comixology.com/Batman-Elmer-Fudd-Special-2017-1/digital-comic/504953?ref=c2VyaWVzL3ZpZXcvZGVza3RvcC9ncmlkTGlzdC9SZWNlbnRBZGRpdGlvbnM

Click on the comic cover to see a preview of the first few pages. Go on. Look. And once you do, try not to be intrigued.
