North Pole Facts · 3:32pm Jul 13th, 2017

There is no landmass covered in ice at the north pole. There is just ocean with drifting ice pieces on the surface. It has been this way since its discovery in the early 1500s.

People on a mass scale, however, seem to remember the north pole being a solid landmass with ice on top (similar to Antarctica). Some even seem to recall being taught this as they were going through school.

It makes you wonder why so many people remember the North Pole being a landmass covered with ice, or even just a giant landmass made of ice, when it has never been that way.

This might stem from an internet 'conspiracy theory' that there are pyramids in Antarctica. A couple pictures from military bases in that region (as well as Google images/ other video footage) has lead some people to believe that there are pyramids on the continent. This would imply that an advanced civilization of some kind once lived there. Some even say that it was once home to the legendary city of Atlantis.

This theory seemed to extend to some ancient civilization once existing in the North Pole, but later sinking into the ocean (which other people say is the city of Atlantis, as opposed to the Antarctica Atlantis theory).

However, despite the internet conspiracy theories, the North Pole has always just been ocean with some floating glaciers (which scientists put drifting research stations on to study the ecosystem of the north pole).

There have also been tons of expeditions to the North Pole throughout history. Although the expeditioners 'technically' reached the North Pole by descending onto floating chunks of ice (some of which are very large) there has never been any solid ice landmass or land with ice on it.

If you want to get very technical the people really only explored that portion of the ocean and stood on some floating glaciers.

The North Pole is just a term for the northern part of the globe. But magnetic north is actually a lot different than geographic north (to add to the confusion).

Regardless of the fact that there has never been a solid landmass in the northern hemisphere of the globe, I'd like to believe Santa lives up there. Maybe in an underwater base of some kind?

Also, to add to the confusion, there is a town in Alaska named North Pole.

Maybe Santa lives in North Pole, Alaska?

I believe that some other state (I think Colorado but I could be wrong) has a town called North Pole as well. I have no idea why.

Weird eh?

The North Pole is just ice. But Antartica.... Antartica is something much more. I consider it the last great mystery of the world. Under it's ice lie eons long forgotten, and the bones of gods....

But that is just me. :pinkiecrazy:

Didn't know that. And Goodness it's been a long time Lyra

amazing facts with lyra

People prolly remember being taught that because of all the manned expeditions that have taken place up there on dog sled & whatnot. People think if you can run a sled on it, it's got to be ground.

4600404 You should look up the Antarctic pyramids. Many people believe that a civilization once existed on Antarctica when the earth had a warmer climate. It is an interesting subject to look into.

4600416 I am glad that you enjoyed the journal post.

And I haven't been posting here too much because I have been busy taking care of the kittens that we rescued. But once they are adopted out, I should be posting more.

4600418 Aww thank you. I am glad that you enjoyed reading the journal post. :)

4600439 That is a good point. Although people 'technically' reached the north pole by descending onto floating chunks of ice (some of which are very large) there has never been any solid ice landmass or land with ice on it.

Of course

And I understand Lyra, very noble of you Lyra

4600625 Thank you for the understanding, my friend. :)

I assume cartoons depicting Santas workshop didn't help. Tell a kid there is no land mass up there, and they will follow up with that.

AWK-ward~

4601146 Many hugs to you as well. :)

4601183 I'd like to believe Santa lives up there. Maybe in an underwater base of some kind? :p

Also, to add to the confusion, there is a town in Alaska named North Pole. :o

I believe that some other state (I think Colorado but I could be wrong) has a town called North Pole as well. I have no idea why. :/

4601239 Aww thank you. You are really nice too. :)

4601334 I have been busy taking care of some kittens we rescued (and the mom) and trying to find homes for them. :) How are things going with you?

4601486
Sounds busy. And things have been quiet on my end

4601559 It has been very busy indeed. :)

4601735
Hope you still get time to relax

People just need to CHILL.

4601740 Aww thank you my friend. :) I hope that I will get some time to relax as well.

4603569 Thank you very much, my friend. XD
