An important message for a dark subject, give a read

Pen Dragon has made an passionate and important petition, one I think is best served by their own words. So please, for the sake of a benign website that has brought such entertainment and joy to many, give this a look.

    Important message about Suicide

WARNING: Discussions, however brief for the sake of tact, about self-harm and suicidal thoughts are in this post. People especially vulnerable to such should ensure they are in a good headspace before reading. This sort of trigger is no joke.

    Chapter 56 Promo!

In an isolated, abnormally large, hollowed-out tree might not be the typical abode for megalomaniacal n'ere-do-wells. Though, there was a reason both of them had opted for current accommodations over the typical kingdoms and castles, in one form or another. The area was absolutely inundated with dark magic. From the eerie glow that some of the plants gave off, to traces of black aerenth crystals

Tales of the Amalgam'verse: Monster X vs. Ultraman Belial - End of Days · 6:04pm Jul 10th, 2017

Part 1

Corona would have coughed if she could. She tried to stand, but her legs were paralyzed from exhaustion. All around her was a sea of rubble, buildings with enormous holes smashed into them that gushed smoke; and a large crater. Footfalls drew closer and closer. Struggling with the color timer gem on her sternum flashing a dim red to indicate mass exhaustion and bodily harm, Corona managed to grip the pavement in front of her with her unbroken arm and roll herself over slightly off her stomach and pick her forehead up off of the ground. If she was going to die, she was going to face her killer.

Evidently, they shared their sentiment as a clawed hand reached down and grabbed the ultra by the shoulder, hoisting her up and partially off the ground due to his taller frame. Corona grunted, wincing behind her cracked eye lenses as she was shoved into the side of the building hard enough to cave a humanoid-shaped indent into it, rubble and shattered glass raining down like a shower. One of the butt ends of her enemy’s staff was put to her chin, Corona weakly trying to muster the strength to grab at the weapon and pull it away as she felt the energy cannon barrel upon it press against her throat. Exhaustion had sapped her far too much. She couldn’t kick, she couldn’t blast, punch, or chop. She could only try and look her death in his glowing eyes.

Across the universe, one race above many was held in high regard. The denizens of the Land of Light, the Ultra. Along with their cousins in the Zone family, the ultramen and ultrawomen were once a race not very distinct from those found on Terra or Xilian. But upon the eve of their star's demise, a team lead by their most brilliant engineered the Plasma Spark, a minature sun housed in the core of their planet. The spark gave new life to their world and came with the benefit of transforming the planet and its denizens into a far greater magnitude. Now giants with bodies of metallic skin and liquid light running through their forms, the ultra were similarly blessed with great power to match their great size. All of them, guided by their king, took it upon themselves to use this power for the better of others. While they couldn't stop every catastrophe due to limited numbers, the ultra averted countless invasions and monster attacks across the galaxy.

But there was one whom saw this as folly, one whom saw his great power and bore a lust for it. For him, a position as chief of the Garrison wasn't enough. For him, only the Plasma Spark itself was worthy compensation. For him, the king forged a prison and banished it to near the edge of the galaxy. For he was called Belial.

And he'd just broken free.

==================

A dark shape darted through an asteroid field along the edge of the galaxy. In scale it was massive, easily 90 or more meters tall, even if the shape was very humanoid save for a thicker neck and slightly hunched posture. The body was predominantly dark colored, somewhere between black gun metal and tar black, with more of the former on the metallic hues coating the head and more of the latter on the body itself; with some jagged blood red streaks across the limbs, torso, and stomach on both sides of the body. The face and head almost seemed helmet-like, sporting two angular, almost insectoid eye lenses that glowed with a fiery orange-red light which reflected off the metallic skin. Each finger was warped, almost like segmented claws too big for the hand in some regard. Mounted upon the sternum was a round gemstone that glowed with a constant amethyst violet light. Clutched in one hand was what could be described as a staff, but also favorably compared to two clubs stuck together at the handles. Similarly dark-hued in coloration, it quietly hummed with a power that radiated off ports mounted along the faces of the long club ends as visible light.

He was an ultra, but both his demeanor and appearance were a far cry from the benign protectors much of the universe knew. And so, fitting for his demonic persona and visage, this Ultraman was called Belial.

And he stopped.

A minute later and two more large shapes flew in where Belial had gone. They too were humanoid, but even more so than Belial, devoid of the slight hunch and stouter neck. The metallic sheen upon their faces and upper torsos was like polished silver, which along with their solid white eye lenses and blue or red body coats gave them a far more heroic and friendly appearance. Fitting considering the two had gone after their quarry after he escaped the Ultra King’s prison with the express purpose of trying to keep him from reaching a populated planet. While they were similar in size, one could tell the two sported a dimorphism aside from color.

The ultra of blue, a male, sported a split head crest that tapered back across his head while joining together just above the bridge of his nose. The blue upon his body was only impeded by a white V shape extended from the indicator gem on his sternum that reached up to either shoulder. Ultraman Stratos.

The ultra of red, a female, had a single fin atop her head with two sideways draping spines that ringed her face while coming down between her eye lenses and ear holes to vaguely resemble bangs of hair. Her body was slightly more elaborately marked with a sort of chestplate of metal going across her shoulders and torso, another metallic band wrapping around her waist like a belt. Ultrawoman Corona.

The two, streaking across the quiet of space and around asteroids, kept flying until Corona stuck up her hand in a halting motion. They both stopped on a dime, weightlessly floating in the void. Without an audible word between them, word of the mind spoke.

-”Signal stops here.”-

-”Must be scattered by the asteroids. We should call for back-up.”-

-”With Belial, good idea. I don’t want him reaching a planet but we’ll do no good flying in circles.”-

The twins nodded, putting their hands to each other’s indicator gems and reaching out to comrades far beyond sight; unaware what they were hunting was in turn hunting them.

A clawed hand crept across the rim of an asteroid the size of a large Terran aircraft carrier, Belial peaking out from his cover to observe the ultra chasing him. What he saw almost made him sneer.

-Pathetic. This is what they see fit to stalk me? Some rookie red and a blue support.-

Preferring the more theatrical approach, he drew up a plan with a few cursory glances at the asteroid field, namely the enormous, two kilometer wide asteroid the two ultra were floating above. He gripped the edges of the asteroid and pushed forward in his flight. He intended to use the one in front of him as a battering ram, slam into the bigger asteroid and either smash the two ultra in between thousands of tons worth of metal and rock, or at least use the massive debris field that followed to give him an easy opening. But when he tried to budge the monolith, it refused to yield. Belial’s cold, metallic face scowled and he tilted his head, trying and failing to budge the weightless object again despite clearly having more than enough force to do so. After another try, he puzzled and tapped on the asteroid curiously, his confusion growing when the reverberating thumping made it feel like the asteroid was hollow on the inside. Mildly confused but unfettered, he simply flew to another, even larger asteroid and took aim; finding it moved to his will much easier. He didn’t know Asteroid Gorath’s occupant heard his presence, red eyes piercing the darkness within.

Standing atop the massive asteroid, Belial pushed it into position before twirling his staff, the Giga Nizer. Gripping it, he pointed the end of it that bore a hidden energy cannon downward and swung down while firing. The soundless explosion bore into the rock and metal, sending it rocketing downwards as Belial chuckled mutely. Stratos and Corona didn’t see it coming until it was too late.

-"LOOK OUT!"-

==================

Corona pushed and tore at the asteroid mass with her fingers, burrowing her way into a now thinning wall of debris. The asteroid that hit them came out of nowhere. By the time she and her brother had noticed it during their call with Zone Fighter and the rest of their team, it was already far too close to dodge despite attempts to do so. Best she could manage was fly as fast as she could in one direction and hope Stratos went with her and they found a crevice or hollow spot to avoid getting crushed. She managed only the latter half, and had been digging her way through the walls of meteoric iron, rock, and iridium to get free. Feeling the walls trapping her weakening, the ultra tucked herself up into a compact form before sending herself rocketing forward with her arms crossed before her. After bursting herself free of her imprisonment, Corona immediately went to looking about her surroundings to try and find Stratos.

Despite the massive amount of dust and debris still aimlessly floating through space, she didn’t have to look for long. Stratos’ bright blue was easy to see against the rocky background, but it wasn’t alone. Corona’s eyes flashed brightly when she recognized the large, predatory figure crouched atop Stratos’ prone form, gripping Stratos by the back of the neck. Belial had his back to her, grunting and casually tossing Stratos’ limp form off to the side and kicking him away without a single care. Just as the evil ultra departed, the good ultra surged forward and caught her sibling.

Corona held her twin brother in her arms, frantically trying to summon up any support ability she had. But even as her hands glowed with a minor wound-mending light, the fact Stratos was clearly the better of the two in terms of healing abilities was made plainly clear. For every one minor cut or blemish she managed to mend, Stratos bore four more large holes or gashes that tore right through his epidermis and exposed the rivers of liquid light that seeped out from within. The weightlessness of space caused the horrid display to express an eerie beauty. His indicator light had passed the blinking red warning setting long ago, now only showing a dim red hue. Just as the light within him started to fade away like sparkling dust, Stratos wordlessly reached up and placed his hand on his sister’s indicator gem. Corona froze as Stratos sparked.

-”No… Don't”-

Stratos nodded and did the opposite before Corona could stop her brother.

Corona felt a brilliant surge of power course into her, greater than any amount of light or energy she’d ever bore before. And she hated every sensational second of it, as both sibling’s forms were engulfed in a flash of light. The flare faded, Stratos’ limp hand drifting through empty space before it disintegrated to glimmering dust. Corona stood motionless, the dust drifting out of her fingers and joining the vastness of space around her. The glow faded, revealing her altered state. Her metallic hues shone a little brighter, her size a little greater, and blue bands identical to her brother's hues now trimmed her silver parts between the metal and red. Liquid light trickled out of Corona’s eye as she felt the last of her brother's presence join her own.

Her mind was a complete, shocked blank even as someone reached out to her telepathically. If her mind were rational, she might have recognized it as Zone Fighter calling in frantically to ask what was happening, if she had a visual on Belial.

She indeed had a visual of course, as she saw the distant glimmer of Belial’s glow descending towards a nearby planet.

A single thought begat a single series of actions. Corona’s fists curled in on themselves and her form became like a streaking comet, rocketing out of the asteroid belt with a war-cry. With her zooming across the dark void, Belial didn’t see her coming until she was right on top of him. He mutely bellowed from the high speed tackle to the back. He whirled around just in time for Corona’s glowing fist to collide with his jaw in a metallic clang. Snarling, the ancient ultra grabbed Corona’s arm by the wrist and they struggled, tumbling into a fire of entry upon the planet’s atmosphere together. Burning heat all around them, they still fought. Corona’s free arm sparking with a charge of power she put to the side of Belial’s face while her foe jammed the end of his glowing, about to fire staff into her side just below the ribcage.

==================

“Status report.”, the lead xilian grunted as he marched towards a large chamber with his entourage following suit.

“The object fell out of the sky just outside the city limits, scans and ground reports confirm it as two living entities.”

“Known species?”

“Ultras, my Controller. Male and a female.”

Controller 075 growled, storming into a war room meeting with his entourage in tow. The viewing sphere in the center of the large room flickered to life the moment the Xilian leader stepped into the chamber. Controller 075, a large bald man with the weathering of war upon his face, squinted and pulsed his red facial veins at what he saw before him. A clash of titans.

Controll 075 raise an eyebrow, “Why are they fighting?”

One of his aids from the military guild looked to the Controller with a similarly perplexed expression, “No information, my Controller. They fell from orbit like this and thus far haven't ceased their actions. Their battle however is approaching Colonial City 4562, formerly Alderocian capital. Estimated time of arrival is five minutes from south-southwest.”

The Controller remained stoic even if he wanted badly to bellow or snarl in rage. But ever since She Who Wouldn't Be Named, such emoting was unbecoming of a leader. “What assets do we have in the area? How far out is the Armada?”

“Next system over, but it will take two hours minimum. City evacuation is underway and the south sector is almost completely empty already.”

Xilian efficiency at its finest, but such could only go so far. The Controller put his arms behind himself, “But even if we evacuate, what's to keep the fight from chasing the civilians down and overtaking them. What other assets do we have? Any Nebulans nearby?”

A small voice piped up from the corner of the room, “There is Gorath, my Controller.”

All eyes came upon younger xilian man clad in a the vest and cloak of the Engineering guild.

“Identify and then explain yourself,” Controller 075 muttered.

The engineer rose up from his seat and saluted by crossing his forearm before himself and jutting his elbow back while clicking his heels. “Engineer Guild Associate Leader 621, my Controller. I oversaw the magnetic blast door construction on Gorath. I know it is currently stationed in the nearby asteroid belt awaiting evaluation after-”

“-After the situation on the Alderoc campaign. Where it refused to function when my predecessor commanded.”, The Controller grunted as the room got uncomfortably quiet. Everyone knew about how Monster X had suddenly opted not to follow commands when told to finish the operation on their new client world which would have been a 'sterilized’ colony had he done so. Fewer knew how the confrontation between X and the Controller’s predecessor, 074, went when the latter confronted the former over it. Controller 075’s red facial veins paled slightly, remembering how utterly terrified his former superior was after trying to confront Monster X inside Gorath.

Engineer 621 gulped, only for the military guild Commander to surprisingly come to his rescue. “My Controller, Monster X might have a lukewarm command response, but he is a fighter. I was on the Alderoc campaign and I remember it all well. And if he protests about civilians being cut down, then that’s all the more reason he'd be well-suited to engage here. Have him fight the ultra, kill if possible and hold them off otherwise until the city can be emptied and the armada arrives.”

A quiet settled over the room, all eyes upon the Controller and his eyes upon the viewing screen. He slowly looked to the entering and military guild places upon the table.

“... Direct Gorath to controlled re-entry upon the south sector. Focus all other efforts on evacuation, I want mining craft and all military or city defense craft refit for transport purposes.”

Engineer 621 sighed in relief, the most emotive thing he could do, as Controller 075 gave his final command.

“Give X these orders. Keep the fight out of the unevacuated areas but do not hold property damage clauses to task. Structures can be replaced, our civilians and workers can’t. If it's not Xilian, kill it.”

==================

Corona was respectably powerful. She wasn't an ace, but still was near top of her class five millennia ago graduating from the garrison. Couple decades on patrol and then the power-up gained from her brother and she was a force to be reckoned with by many ultra’s standards.

She gathered up energy in her forearms while sliding back across the ground. Waving her arms in a circle with trails of light, she formed a cross in front of herself and let loose a large wave of energy, the spectrum beam.

Problem was, Belial was well outside all but one ultra’s standards.

The spectrum beam, that torrent of iridescent plasma and hard light, was blocked by a raised staff. Corona increased the power output so much so that when the ray swelled in size the blowback was starting to cause her feet to slide backwards. For every one step she went back, Belial moved three forward. The demonic ultra’s approach by land was replaced by one in the air, flying forward and smashing the other side of his weighted staff into Corona’s side. In what must have felt like a pitch getting hit by a baseball bat, the ultrawoman went pinwheeling backwards and flew through several buildings.

Rubble and dust clogged her vision as she groggily picked herself up after rolling down a mainstreet. Corona honestly couldn’t tell what worried her more, the fact Belial’s staff was smoking but otherwise unharmed from a long span of her assault; or the fact she just realized she’d been thrown into a city.

“The Land of Light squandered our gifts when our race changed.”

Belial’s voice rang in her ears even when Corona busily tried to make sure she hadn’t squashed anyone. Fortunately the red on her was all her own, her cracked left eye lense spying the fleeing forms of an evacuating populace. Belial calmly closed in.

“We were given power that made us gods to lesser beings, and we waste it on being their servants. And for what?”

The ancient ultra, once one of the greatest and well-regarded of his race, twirled his staff and smashed the butt of it into Corona’s chin, sending the still dazed ultra sprawling.

“Being heroes? Good? That is not how the galaxy works. These worms Ken and Mary once called noble, now look at what their works have done. This was once a planet of another race…”

Corona attempted to struggle even as memories of how the garrison commander and his wife, the ones many ultra affectionately nicknamed Father and Mother, once spoke highly of the xilians. She also knew this used to be an Alderoc world. She tried to grab and tear the staff away from her. Belial kicked her clawing hand aside and put the tip of the staff against her, its energy cannon’s barrel poking against Corona’s throat.

“The galaxy isn’t filled with heroes, only fools and monsters. No one will save anyone, spare anyone. If we’re all monsters, then power is all that matters.”

Belial paused, glancing up and further down the city at a fleeing crowd of xilian transport ships. He lifted the nizer staff away from Corona and adjusted his aim like how a bemused human might aim to squish an ant. Time slowed as the energy in the cannon collected. Corona saw where it was being pointed and she saw them all. An xilian soldier carrying an infirmed old man onto a transport while trying to hurry more inside, not seeming to notice the man was an alderoc. A mother and father expressing restrained emotion and holding a young form between them as they knelt close to each other. A miner dumping his cargo out the side to try and make room for more of the fleeing crowds. Scores of men, women, old and child, running to whatever salvation might come that was going to be taken by Belial.

The xilians were a cruel race even if they were considered noble once. They attacked other inhabited worlds. They purged and forbade expressing their own emotions. And if reports were to be believed they even employed an enslaved kaiju as a weapon of mass destruction.

None of them stopped Corona from screaming out in rage and denouncement as she launched herself up and out of Belial’s pin. A radiating energy blade formed on her chopping hand which soon aimed itself at Belial’s face. Her aim was off, only grazing him across the left eye lens, but it still earned a roar of hatred and pain. She couldn’t get out of the way when the energy cannon fired into her stomach and erupted out her back, sailing off into the sky. Corona’s body went limp and sailed back, leaking liquid light for blood from both her stomach and back.

Consciousness was foggy and her vision spiraled as she lay propped up against a building. The indicator light upon her sternum started to flicker to red every so often, numerous cuts, the stab wound, and one of her eyes leaking the light from within her. A hated snarl and footsteps approached. Belial was sneering, his head plate splitting at the jaw and exposing numerous monstrous fangs behind the metal. Dark indigo light trickled out of his cracked and cut eye lens. He stalked closer, claws curling and snatching up Corona by the collar. Belial sneered and his staff began to spark with dark energy.

But it wasn’t the staff’s light that illuminated the city. A burning glow had swallowed up both the light of the ultras and the weapon. A loud rumbling made itself known. Corona could only let her head limply fall backwards in time to see the blazing mass of asteroid Gorath streak down from the clouds and come barreling towards them. It all happened so quickly in sequence that had it not been for the rush of battle, she wouldn’t have seen any of it.

The city block sized asteroid slammed into Belial before he could dodge out of the way, nicking her in the side and due to sheer force and Belial’s lost grip, flung her off the side with a broken arm. After sliding across the pavement and hitting her back on another building, she glimpsed what looked like blast doors on the side of the asteroid click open and go flying off; a large form leaping out and backwards as the rest of the asteroid carried itself and Belial into a skyscraper. With a fiery explosion, the two kilometer tall tower of glass and metal came crashing down on Gorath and the evil ultra, the former’s occupant having a far softer landing.

Gravity slowed its grip around a form of dark skin and bony plate armor. A tail split halfway down its length swayed in the air behind it, burning red eyes atop a vaguely dragon-like head locked on to the falling mountain of rubble. Monster X softly landed on the ground as Belial burst forth from the debris.

Wisps of mist slithered out of X’s fanged maw. A dark glow erupted from Belial’s indicator light. Clawed hands became tightened fists. Heroic men, Xilian and Ultra, turned monsters by their own volition stared each other down and the space between them rapidly closed on thundering footsteps.

As the war raged, a shaking hand clawed at the rubble surrounding its owner. Corona wounded and sparking, stubbornly began to pick herself up with her good arm.

-I'm not done with you...-

Before anyone asks, yes Ultrawoman Corona is an OC created by the Humanity's Stand crew with some input from myself. Given she will be appearing in that story down the line (though modern day or flashback I won't say yet) and Ultra can live thousands of years, consider this an early cameo.

Hoo boy, this is gonna get nasty!

Wow, I really like this. Great job, Tarb.

Epic!

And given how dangerous Belial is, Corona did well. Ironically, I had an Ultra OC named Ultrawoman Corona once.

The battle was pretty dang epic so far, and now we get the main event: the an angel of light who fell to dark and the last noble warrior of a now evil people. So fitting.

Ultrawoman Corona is a boss, but Monster X VS Ultraman Belial is the fight we all wanna see!

4597751
Yep, she's pretty strong as far as ultra go. Not an ace, but pretty potent. To be fair, Belial is armed and much, much more experienced. Love the name irony XD

Ironically the three represent a spectrum of outcomes for the same scenario. What happens when an individual is born into or given incredible power? Belial gained incredible power, but lost his morals while gaining a twisted sense of purpose (power for the sake of itself). X gained incredible power, but lost his sense of purpose even while keeping his morals; becoming a weapon to be pointed at an used because following orders if the only purpose he has left. Corona, much like Junior, was granted incredible power (both by being born as an ultra and when her brother sacrificed himself) but she kept her morals and a sense of purpose; thus stayed a heroine.
That's what differs Belial from X, one is a monster the other is a monster in name. And what differs X from Corona, but one to attack for others and the other to defend others.

Gracias mi amigo~

"This battle is about to explode- F I G H T!"

4597783
That does tap into what I love about the Ultras: their entire species underwent a Mass Super Empowering Event giving them immense power, and yet they collectively chose With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility and to become heroic superheroes instead of conquerors. Belial desires that, but he's an exception, not the rule.

Though unfortunately for everyone, Belial is also a stand out example of Ultras POWER as well.

Wow, Belial is a dick.

So Gorath can control its flight? Cool.

4597796
Statement for the ages folks, Belial is a dick :rainbowlaugh:

Yep, the Xilians can 'aim' it and control how fast it comes in. In this case dropping it right on Belial and Corona while slowing down enough they didn't nuke their own city.

Tara, you did good. I was on the edge of my seat, reading this, along with the fitting music

I like this paragraph, it shows that the Xilians are still people despite becoming twisted over the years.

Hopefully X will have more success than the last time he confronted a powerful monster who invaded an Xilian world.

I'm getting the feeling that Belial will be the kind of fighter whom will not flee, even when the writing is on the wall that he's going to lose.

4598023
The guy can die and come back from the grave even stronger, I'd be confident too.

I also gotta wonder if the release of this being timed almost exactly with the release of Ultraman Geed(Belial's son) was a coincidence. Good timing, nonetheless.

I wonder which is Ghidorah or Kaizer for that matter? They lost or lacked any morals in the first place but do either of them have a sense of purpose?

4598133

I wonder which is Ghidorah or Kaizer for that matter? They lost or lacked any morals in the first place but do either of them have a sense of purpose?

Kaizer definitely has a purpose: ending Ghidorah. As for Ghidorah, I expect he views his purpose to be the greatest monster of them all; he feeds on souls to grow stronger and extinguishes the life of worlds so no other can raise up and be his equal. He likely views killing Bagan as his ultimate goal, as Bagan is among the few he has ever met that is greater the he. So, yes, he has a purpose. A dark purpose, but a purpose still.

4598247
But what would Kaizer do after killing Ghidorah? Tarb mentioned that he could easily become the next planet destroyer but i don't imagine that ultimately being a very satisfying life for him, since he's literally got nothing else in life except the sole mission of killing Ghidorah, i see him becoming a Death Seeker so that he may put himself at rest to be reunited with 011.

You know, your answer for Ghidorah's purpose lines up more with Pre-Reformation Vegeta's agenda to be the best there is and viewing Bagan/Kakarrot respectively as there ultimate milestone to top.

4598257
Once Ghidorah falls, I expect Kaizer will seek out any others he views as responsible for Controller 11's death, starting with the Xillian military. After that, he will either be left without purpose, rampaging across the cosmos for the remainder of his miserable life, or will find a new purpose to dedicate himself to. Most likely it will be a dark purpose given his nature, but still...

4598262
But any other "culprits" that were involved in the incident are probably long dead by now, either by his own hand or otherwise. :rainbowhuh:

4598263
Do you really think he will care about specific beings? Think less "I will hunt down the one that fired that missile", and more "interplanetary extinction event focused upon the Xillians as a species."

4598276
I suspected as much after i sent the message.

Gravity slowed its grip around a form of dark skin and bony plate armor. Monster X softly landed on the ground as Belial burst forth from the debris.

Well, Monster X Sure knows how to make a cool entrance

Oooooh hohoho hoooo. Belial is gonna get his tail whooped!! I'm loving this already, even though I'm not a big Ultraman fan. ^^'
