    I Live!

But I’m on a buttload of drugs and am going to pass out.

Surgery went great, even better than expected. I’ll elaborate more later.

    Until next time!

I REALLY Didn't Want To Do This, But— · 3:05pm Jul 6th, 2017

—I'm putting DaD back on hiatus.

I was so certain that I would be able to quickly pick up where Crystal Moose and I left off after our brainstorm session, but I just haven't been feeling the spark that I expected to come. Like I said last time, I have a better idea of what's coming now, but the intense drive that I thought would come just... isn't.

I'm not saying that I'm done with DaD—far from it—but I also don't want you guys holding your breath for something to come soon. Not only do I want to finish a few more chapters before handing them over to my editor—who, by the time I get around to writing said chapters, should be a little more settled and able to work with me (I hope)—but I've also got a lot going on right now. Job searching has been pretty overwhelming, I'm still trying to sift through my old computer files to see what I want/need to keep after it crashed (and I'm pretty sure I lost all my audio files, so I need to restart any reading projects that weren't complete—they're on hold for now), I'm helping to prep my brother's bachelor party (which is in about two weeks now), and to top it off, I've now got strep throat. :pinkiesick: Ain't life just grand? :facehoof:

Believe me, I don't want to discourage anyone from reading the story if they haven't so far—please do, especially since I've seen some recent shelf additions—but also don't expect any more chapters too soon. Once things tide over a bit and I'm not as overwhelmed (or sick), I'm sure I'll get the spark back.

Sorry if you're disappointed, but for now, please continue being the amazingly patient audience you've been.

Until next time, everyone.

My recommendation for you is to begin another project. A short one, just a thousand words or few, I found it really helped me getting back on 'the horse' so to speak. Yesterday I wrote 5k words in one sitting, and today thus far I've written 3k. Taking your mind completely off something can help you, as when you come back to it, you've essentially hit refresh on your mind. Writing something is a lot like a rubber band, there's only so far you can stretch yourself on a project before it stops stretching, and staps (stap being a metaphor for writers block.) That's just my tip, but you've been at least longer than I, and have a three quarters more followers, so I don't know.

That's the thing, I did just kind of step away from it for a little while. I've been focusing on reading some other fics I wanted to get through or catch up on, and I've tried coming up with some other story ideas, but I'm kind of falling flat. My 'idea dumps' folder isn't really helping me, and the only thing I did have a thought of was a small, stupid crossover with an old TV show from the 90s that I don't think is going to come to fruition because of the likely lack of an audience (and a plot :trollestia:). I also thought of a crossover with a fairly new video game on Steam that I backed on Kickstarter (Nefarious), but then realized it would need to include a ton of spoilers to be at all workable, and like I said, the game is still fairly new, so I don't want to ruin it.
I think after one of the aspects of my life settles a bit, I'll be able to go back to the story with a fresh look, so for now I just need to wait, no matter how much I don't want to do that. :facehoof:

At first I thought taking a break would help. But I ended adopting 'one more day', and that lasted for a while. One day when I had a huge bout of it, I came up with an incredibly boring idea. Think of a hobby you like, or the most boring thing you can think of, and write characters doing it. My writer's block cure. This helped be continue writing. Take a brief hiatus, and write something else very different from what you usually do. I wrote clop, and then I wrote a boring political discussion, and I swang right back into things.

When feeling the burnout, take a break.

Do what you gotta do, man. :derpytongue2:

Life can sometimes be the chief obstacle to writing, that being said, don't force yourself to write a particular story if you're not feeling it. Still, pick up your pen (or keyboard) and try to write something, anything, it doesn't matter in the end as long as words spill out. Tons of ideas can for this way and you never know what your brain might belch out without you stressing it to think.

Sorry about the throat, bud. Seems like life still enjoys throwing you a few bad cards every now and then :rainbowwild:
