A quick follow-up · 2:31pm Jul 5th, 2017

Morning everyone.

If you read my blog two days ago, you'll know I had a minor existential meltdown involving my current backlog of ongoing stories.

After having some time to think about it, here's what going down.

Awful Lot of Coffee has been marked Complete. I have no intentions of immediately updating it in the near future, and I figured I might as well make it official instead of having that "Updates Every Tuesday" bullshit still chilling in the description, taunting every poor fucker who comes across it.

That long period where it was updating every week, and when the bulk of the best chapters came out? I was having loads of fun writing it during that period. Then, something changed. I started having less and less fun writing it, particularly thanks to the fact that I knew it was my writing at it's absolute lowest tier. When you vent months of your time into a story that gets lukewarm reception, and then hammer out a shitty lacklustre 700 word comedy chapter that hits the featured box, it creates an odd sense of anti-climax.

When I first started writing Awful Lot of Coffee, it was to break up the monotony of writing horribly dark things happening to characters I like. There's only so much emotional turmoil you can write before your mind kinda starts going "Yo I think you should kinda chill a bit there, bro." However, over time, Coffee became the slog and it was a slog that got in the way of what I actually wanted to write.

For that reason, I'm discontinuing any promises of future updates, and continuing to focus my efforts onto Cyclosa and Angujaktuat. They're the only stories that give me a sense of fulfillment and pride as a writer, and they're in essence what I've always wanted to write. They are, however, the complete opposites in tone to Coffee, which I imagine is the reason most of you are following me in the first place. I won't try to sell you on those stories, but they're there if you still wish to keep up with my writing.

Now, what does that mean for Coffee? Should I be calling a coroner?

No, not exactly. It's marked Complete because my promises for scheduled updates have tapered away. This, however, does not mean that my intentions of publishing chapters have vanished completely. If I have a burst of inspiration (like the recent cake one, which I wrote whilst high af) then, by all means, I shall write and publish them. I love the personas I've given the princesses there and always will delight in returning them in any means that doesn't require me to literally force my finger to the Publish button.

I'm really sorry for my long, ranting blog posts, and for anyone who may be disappointed by this. I'll be chilling in the comments if you have anything to say.

I did, actually. I made the image a link to the source, but it didnt work.

I'll link it below.

Makes sense to me, my friend. Muse is often a difficult thing to focus for extended periods of time, and such breaks are often needed.

Writing should make you happy and kudos for realizing that fact. I'm not as interested in your current fics, but I'll not question their quality and hey, my mind might change in time.

Well, it's sad that Awful Lot of Coffee is ending. But, and you said, writing should make the writer happy.

And too bad I'm not interested in starting more stories right now, cause the others look very interesting.

As much as I'd love to see weekly updates of the crazy antics they get up to in the story, I can totally understand. Awful Lot of Coffee really is one of those stories that probably works better without any kind of consistent schedule due to how random it is. If there's no schedule you can just kind of add to it whenever an idea for a funny scene strikes. If there is a schedule, you feel like you have to come up with something, and the results can be less satisfying for you and the reader.

So...yeah. Probably better this way.

Honestly, I enjoyed Coffee because it was crap writing (that's a very different animal than a crap author). It made no attempt at being deep, engaging, or even resembling the show with anything more than a token nod. It was a silly and irreverent, requiring no real investment from the reader. As such, it was a great break from my usual giant-tome-of-emotionaly-engaging-characters-and-multi-tiered-plot.

In short, it is loved but not as my primary reading so I'm not surprised that you don't want it to be your primary writing. Don't feel bad about focusing on other things, but it's staying on my watch list.:moustache:

Think you hit the nail on the head there.

As such, it was a great break from my usual giant-tome-of-emotionaly-engaging-characters-and-multi-tiered-plot.

I said it in the blog, but you worded it far better. That is the exact reason I started writing it, but I never intended for it to become the story most people associate with 'my writing.'

So, um, I started following you for Synthetic Bottled Sunlight.

...

Any news on that?

Yeah, its coming along. Thats one of the stories that, when I decided to continue it, I did so on the grounds that it had to be close to perfect. I hold that one to a high standard, and unfortunately that means progress on it is significantly shorter. I've gotten a good chunk written but keep having doubts about it. I want to make sure its at the quality people expect, and I keep feeling like the last few chapters have been slipping in that regard.

That said, I'm going to try and write a good chunk a day, and resist the urge to delete heavy blocks of text I dont initially like.

It is the nature of impulsive slice of life stories to peter out eventually. No worries. :)

I actually like you as a person so I don't care what you write idiot jokes on you-

I was following you for Awful Lot of Coffee but I'll try out the more serious stories when I'm closer to being caught up on my other stuff.
Your blog posts aren't that long, so no worries there.

You do you man, and I'll keep tracking it in case inspiration strikes. Good luck.
