Author Spotlight #3 - King of Beggars · 4:03pm Jul 1st, 2017
And we're back with episode 3!
The weeks almost over so I had to make sure to get one of these out before I lost my chance. Anywho, in this spotlight, we're talking about an author that is extremely talented and wrote some of the best fictions this site has witnessed. And, to add to that, they also personally inspired me to jump out of my writing hiatus back in the day.
Check below for details!
This guy is one of the site's more recognizable names, no doubt, but that doesn't mean anything as far as these blogs are concerned. No followers or a million followers, I care not. What I do care about is the quality of fiction one produces and whether or not I enjoy it.
And this guy has quality fiction in spades.
King of Beggars writes on a wide variety of subjects including Alternate Universe, Comedy, Shipping, SoL and everything inbetween. It's like listening to a 90's Blink 182 album going through his stories. There's something there for everyone.
Anywho, my personal readership with this user goes a bit deeper, actually. A ways back, I wrote a story called Heart Invasion 101 that played at least a small part in one of this user's earlier fics, or so he said. However, the fic it inspired him to write was far more entertaining and better than anything I could've hoped to ever write. Literally, it was one of the best fics I've read to date on this site. Because of that, I basically stopped writing for awhile. I saw someone else take what I did and do it perfectly.
I didn't know what else to do.
Be that as it may, he then released another story, a Spike and Lyra one, and it was so good, it straight up snapped me out of my self-serving hiatus and forced me to try my hand at writing again. It was like the rise and fall of an empire in a few months. So, I owe King of Beggars a lot because his writing revitalized a slow market in the Spike community.
Well, enough of that jazz, let's talk about some of his must-reads!
1.Playing the Scales - This story is a fantastic SpikexOctavia fic that also happened to be the first fic I read by him. It's very romantic and has a great feelsy warmth to it.
2. Lies and Lyres - This is one quite a few of you might know. It's a Spike and Lyra friendship romance/comedy story. It is the ideal example of how to do a Spike ship. It's got all the bells and whistles of writing so to speak. Definitely worth a read. i still read it from time to time.
3. The Portrait This story is a bit different than his usual fare, but that's no reason not to love it. It's short and I don't wanna spoil much, but definitely worth a read if you want something a bit on the lighter side that'll give you a laugh and make you think a bit.
Okay guys! That wraps it up for this Spotlight. Just to recap, King of Beggars writes fantastic fiction that deserves attention at your earliest convenience.
Keep writing and reading and maybe one day I'll feature you on here!

i'm kinda suprised you didn't put his twilight guard stories up for a must read

I really like them, but I choose my personal favorites for these things. I also like to feature stories that maybe not a whole lot of people read.
Hey, thanks for the spotlight~
It's funny to me that you recommend Portrait. That story was something I only did to pay Magello for TwiGuard's coverart. He drew that picture I used as the coverart and he was like, "Write me story that is this. Just this." I actually feel it's one of my weaker oneshot short comedies, especially up against things like Squirm!!! and TimeJerk, which came out fairly good for what they were.
Good luck with your writing, too! I'm reading your Spike/Derpy fic. What's that ship, Sperpy? MrNumbers said it should be called Postal, because Derpy's the mailmare and Spike is a mailbox for Twilight and Celestia. Damnit that's a good joke.

I really enjoyed it! I try to recommend stories that are a combination of my personal faves and stories that could use more attention. For example, I love Twilight Royal Guard, but everyone has already it, lol.

that makes sense. let the lesser known works get some time in the light
