The first, and most exciting news is that after all these years, I finally got my gold Fimfic membership back! Which is super exciting, and totally gives me bragging rights.
Although I'm going to miss the Riptiders ad.

Secondly, my new van works very well. I took it on a longish trip yesterday, just to see how it did, and it performed admirably. There are a few things that need addressing, like it's got one bald tire and one broken headlight, but for $200, it's far better than I expected. Monday, I'm going to get it up on a hoist in the shop and see what it looks like underneath, and if there isn't anything critical wrong with it, I think I'm going to make it into my new daily driver, at least for the summer.
I do need to decide which pony to put in it, though. I've got Trixie in the white van, and Rarity in the Impala. I was thinking Rainbow Dash, but I'm not entirely sure she's the right choice.

She doesn't seem like a minivan type of girl.
Thirdly--and this is not exactly good news--I might have broken my left pinkie finger, which is making typing a little bit inconvenient, especially since it's currently taped to my left ring finger. Making up for the letters that I normally type with them isn't that big a deal; I'm already getting pretty good at it. What's more of a problem is that I normally use only my left pinkie for the shift key and the ctrl key, and that's a bit more of a reach, and keeps knocking my left hand off the home row.
You can handle it.
Dvorak keyboards always need more love.
Sucks about your finger. Pinkie seems like a mini-van type of pony... gotta have room for all the party supplies, and or take friends to the party.
Silver Glow's Journal, Entry Two Billion and Four: Hooves are better than fingers because hooves are harder to break.
Yeah, definitely not Rainbow Dash, perhaps the Cakes? Minivans are stereotypically kid haulers.
That sucks about your finger, how long is it going to be taped?
Hands are important.
I cut a tendon on my right middle finger (hand went through a car window and smashed with a sledgehammer at the same time - lots of cuts) and it won't straighten out now.
Also got stabbed through my left palm. Left a scar, but no permanent damage.
I jammed my finger against a pallet of water once.
It has never healed right.

Get a Pear Butter Plushy -- She'd fit.
There were sponsorship levels?
(You know there's a shift and control on the right side as well, right?)
My dad did something stupid once which resulted in my right hand being crushed by an oil tank. I was fortunate nothing broke and the tendons were all fine, but I couldn't do much more than wave with my right hand for about a month.
Also, Gilda is best pony.

I can indeed, although typos are currently rampant. Also accidentally hitting caps lock.
Is there a version where you don't use your left pinkie finger? Because that would be pretty useful right now.
(Actually, aside from needing the shift and ctrl keys, I'm almost at full speed without it.)
4581936
At least it's not a terribly important one.
Yeah, and if it was a sign, when I went to Meijer, most of the ponies in front of the racks were Pinkie.
4581995
I know, right? Stupid fragile fingers.
4581998
Ooh, the cakes would be good, too, although as far as I know, there aren't any brushables of the Cakes.
I don't know--I bought a splint for it and I'm just gonna take it day by day and see what happens. It's pretty swollen and I can't really bend the top joint, but other than that it seems alright.
4582007
Yes, they are. They're how I make my living, in fact.
There must be an interesting story behind that . . . I can't bend one of my fingers right due to it being crushed when I was younger, although luckily I learned how to touch type after that happened.
Dang. Maybe you ought to wear armored gauntlets all the time, just to be safe.
4582042
I did that against a car window, although luckily it did heal.
I also used to habitually crack my knuckles. That stopped the next day, when I accidentally tried to crack my sprained finger.
4582104
Oh, yeah, she totally would. I suppose I'd have to commission her, though.
4582233
Yup! Fictioneer, Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
4582307
I do know that, but I never learned how to use them.
Lucky there was no permanent damage. I've partially destroyed one finger, but other than that (and my current injury) everything works more or less like it's supposed to.
4582478
hmm, true.
not being able to bend the joint is a warning sign for a broken bone. You should get that checked out, you don't want it to heal wrong.
I think I broke my right ring finger when I was in 9th or 10th grade playing basketball. It healed fine but now it could bend over backwards further than my other ring finger could. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.
4582483
Never knew they had such things
4582481
Wearing armor didn't help one of the times I got shot - .44 mag ricochet embedded in my collarbone, about an inch above the chest plate of my armor - so I'm not going to bother with armored gauntlets.
Rainbow Dash and a soccer mom chariot? It's a match made in Cloudsdale.
Curse you fimfic gold. I may finally have to Patreon register now.
Also, Silver Glow's Journal is back at the Million-Word Mark. Well done.
4582580
I think that was just a side effect of the swelling--it seems to work pretty well now, although it's still rather tender. I'm back to being able to use it to type, at least.
4582588
Spraining it can do that too, I think.
I once managed to mess up something important in my shoulder (not sure exactly what, because I can't remember what the doctor said), which didn't seem to leave any lasting effects until I was doing a quarterstaff pass behind my back and discovered that I could do it with my left arm but not my right.
4582662
Yup! Pity that it doesn't come with anything more than no ads and the gold badge. There ought to be some other type of swag for a gold membership, although I'm not sure what Knightly could offer that wouldn't lead to abuse.
4582689
Hearing this, I'm imagining that you either are/were a cop or in some branch of the military . . . or a schoolteacher.
Or else you just live an interesting life.
4582694
She'd probably like this minivan, at least:
4582726
I'm almost tempted to make my own Patreon account. But I don't really need the money, plus then I'd feel pressured to do the things that my readers want me to do instead of doing whatever the hell I feel like.
4582823
Some judicious edits did the trick. And in the process, I found a bunch of typos that had gone unnoticed, so I guess that's also a win for readers going forward.
4583945
well,, it sounds like you might have lucked out. I haven't broken a finger before (well at least not the joint, i probably broke the tip of one) so I'm not 100% sure.
4583945
I guess. I never had it checked by a doctor and let it healed naturally. So I had no idea whether I broke it or sprained it.
4583945
Maybe a hat? Mention in a yearly roundup.....
4583952
Physics professor.
But yes, I've had an interesting life.
4583965
My only experience with finger breaking is more of a crushing and shattering, and took surgery to fix. I've also sprained fingers before, but there's nothing that can really be done for that medically.
What was kind of frustrating, was that WebMD said that you didn't need to see a doctor for this kind of injury unless the bone was broken, but how would you know without seeing a doctor?
4584136
.
I'm not sure how you could really tell the difference without an x-ray anyways. Unless you tried to bend it in the middle or something; I've got to figure if you suddenly have a new finger joint where you didn't have one before, you probably broke the bone.
4585844
I guess. :V
4584146
Ooh, a hat would be good. There used to be official FimFiction hats. Arad has one.
There is a page that lists all the sponsors and their sponsorship level. So I guess that's good for bragging rights or something.
4584209
So teacher was a pretty good guess.
More so than mine . . . or else I've just gotten a little bit luckier.
4585844
Ouch, I smashed my fingertip really bad in a door once. It was bad enough where the skin on the end just ruptured. The finger is flatter than all my others now (and it's still a little sore years later).
well, sometimes it's obvious, like if your finger has a 90 degree bend. When in doubt see a doctor though.
4587164
That's basically what I did, although with more smashy and significant internal damage (hence the surgery). It's not exactly right, either.
I'm hoping that my little finger heals back to mostly normal in a couple weeks or so. It's still pretty swollen, although I can type with it, and it doesn't hurt too much when I touch it, unless I push on the end of the fingernail.
Yeah, I kinda figured that if I got a new finger joint, I should see a doctor. But it was so swollen at first, it didn't bend in any direction, whether it was supposed to or not.
Funny thing is, the few injuries I've looked up on WebMD for 'should I see a doctor' reason suggested that you probably didn't have to, at least not right away. Wait a couple days and only see a doctor if things get weird (I found that out for frostbite--after the first aid, then you kinda wait and see what happens).
