So, I've decided to maybe do a few of these posts, just to channel my thoughts somewhere and hey, maybe someone reads it and gets something out of it, who knows.

So, I am a fan of weird, messed up, avant garde type of music and to my surprise, untill the last week, I have not heard of "The Residents". If I could describe the two of their most famous early albums, it would be - counter reaction. It can be described as music, for people who hate music or are tired of it.

Their first release, was "Meet the Residents" a spoof of the famours "Meet the Beatles" LP. It takes a lot of famous songs as samples (ofcourse Beatles are among them) and fucks with them in an unheard manner for the year of 1974 it came out in. It uses many technices as tape manipulation, layering different instuments over the distorted tracks of high popularity. You really get the impression of this "blergh" attitude towards the pop music of the time, as it the creators were sick and tired of it being everywhere and what follows is avant garde madness

Their next LP was "Third Reich and Roll", in which they took this direction even further, which can even be seen from name alone. It is a full blown satire of the popular music of the "rock and roll" era. It is like living in a hell of constant pop music and your mind not being able to persive it or reality as it is any longer. It is alos here they have started using synths and many more creative tricks. Some samples are easily recognizable, while others are straight up impossible to decode.

As a lover of Avant Garde and weird music, I have gotten much kicks from "The Residesnts" and their discography holds over 50 (Yes 50!) LPs I have not heard of. Think of them more as a project than a band. The one that kinda makes you wonder. It is a type of music, that would be not out of place in the movie "Holy Mountain". I can't wait to see what the band has gotten in store for me, seeing as their works have spanned 40+ years and they still keep coming up with new stuff.

ehm, thanks for reading. Who knows, maybe I will do this sorta thing a bit more often or something.

Haha, I tried to start a blog here, but was not feeling it. The longest I did a blog was about 8 or so articles about comic books XD
