The Dastardly Duo (also a quick check-in)

Recently, I realized that I needed to get some art for the less noble side of Set Sail. Our main villain has existed for years now as nothing more than words on a page and ideas in my head, but now we've got photographic evidence that he exists!

I made my account here exactly 10 years ago today. A whole decade of occasionally posting words about silly little talking horses and birds. I wish I had something planned but this kinda just snuck up on me. All I have is my thoughts, and I've only got one of those right now.

    I'm getting old.

In my nearly four years of watching MLP... · 6:17am Jun 22nd, 2017

...never once has it made me cry. That is, until today.

I watched "The Perfect Pear" this evening, and I can safely say that it was probably the best payoff that any episode in the show's history. From nearly my first day of watching the show, I always wondered what became of Applejack's parents. I read many a fanfiction on the subject, and dreamed up my own ideas on who they were, how they met, etc.

Now that we finally have an episode dedicated to them, I can safely say that we got the best possible outcome. The episode was one of the most beautiful things I've seen in recent memory, and everything was flawlessly presented. The story setup was very natural, the delivery was outstanding, the new cast of characters we met were all stellar, and the look at the history of the Apple family was exactly what I needed in my life. After all of these years, it feels so incredible to finally have this episode.

And yes, I cried on three occasions. First when Big Mac asked Burnt Oak if he could come back for more stories about his dad (seriously, that little line hit me so hard that I nearly saw stars), the second was during the song, which was one of my favorites out of the show, and the third one was during the wedding sequence, when Pear Butter had to choose between her new husband and her family.

Oh right, and I cried at the ending. I literally finished the episode with tears dripping off my chin.

Bravo to the show's staff. Just bravo. We've had some incredible episodes already this season, but this one takes the cake. I think it might actually be my favorite episode from the entire series.

Yeah, it's that good. If you haven't done so yet, go watch it NOW!

It's late, and I need sleep, but I'll be leaving you with some good art for whenever you might happen to find this post. Have a good one, everybody!
