I suppose some minor spoiler warning might be needed if you don't know who these two hybrid/quasi were before being podded by Polybia.
In light of the new episode revolving the Apple family, there are some changes that need to be made to the two ponies in the blog title. Namingly their colors and their names. So if you happen to be rereading the story, here is your warning now that they were be renamed Pear Butter (Buttercup) and Bright Mac respectively. So give me a day or so to comb through everything before harping on about how i missed something. I get enough of that from my editors. 
Edit: Paint Brush will actually be keeping his current name since he doesn't remember/chooses not to use his old name, but Golden Grain/Pear Butter does actually remember it. So, not a total change I guess.
I recommend you don't do it. It's almost impossible to keep long-running stories true to canon from later seasons as they develop over the years. Heck, even my long-running story has been tripped up twice by Applejack-focused episodes' unexpected Cup Cake appearances, and I've been writing for less than a year.
So I'm going to ignore 'Chiffon Swirl', and keep going the same direction I was headed before this. I think your Appleparents work on their own logic, based on what was known when you first put them down on paper. Let them be who and what they are in your continuity.
Your story already deviated from canon in how changelings work, and of course in the life events of Twilight and Dash. Don't be afraid to continue to deviate, especially where it is the official canon that made the decision to change (or really, clarify/specify, since they write from a different baseline.
That said, this is a pretty simple change to make. Assuming you do change it, make sure to mention it in author notes as well, especially on the first chapter of the next story to have the character.
I would say don't do it. Your story is so far from canon, that I don't think it's worth the confusion. What's more, you wrote this before Canon revealed their names.
I'd prefer you leave the names as you had them.
Well, I was going to hold my tongue so as not to cause trouble, but seeing as the comments so far seem unanimous, I'll add my voice: personally, I'd really prefer you didn't do it. And while it is your story, if you were planning it in the first place because of perceived external pressure instead of a desire on your own part to change the names, I'd say that you really don't need to.
On a tangentially related note: What the hell is pear butter? Is that an actual food?
4579375 A real thing. I've never had it, but apple butter's common enough. I'd imagine that pear butter would be a more watery, thinner-tasting version of apple butter, given the base stock.
Yeah, don't put more work doing something that is easy to make mistakes. You'll to nuts trying to keep canon that way...
I kinda disagree a bit. If you want to change it, go for it since it's your story. It'll be a bit of work, but not a great deal of it. Mostly If you have some plans going forward with the change don't let us stop you.

Bit late the the party, but I just finished reading the story and found it slightly confusing how both pear butter and paint brush called each other PB.
Are their any plans for another story for this Universe?
