It seems that guitar picks and strings grow in my room · 8:27pm Jun 6th, 2017

While cleaning my room from the old stuff, I ended up finding a Polish-German dictionary eleven guitar picks total, some of them in pretty random places. Those aren’t all the picks I ever owned, so I guess the rest is either lost forever, or they’re plotting to take over the world. Anyway, here’s the eleven I found:

From the top:
1. Promotional crap, given in bulk at the music festival I was at, and probably not meant to actually use it to play, as it’s pretty thin and appears to be made of paper. I broke the first one I got on the same festival (twenty people with acoustic guitars, each trying to play louder than the rest. That was the only time I broke a pick and made my fingers bleed)
2. 1.5 mm, making it the second thickest pick I use. Or rather don’t use, it’s made of pretty weird plastic that adds way too much scratching to the sound.
3. I think I bought this one, though I don’t remember when or why (but I once bought a pen and a notebook while drunk and wrote a bit of Springtime for Shimmer). It’s about 0.7 mm thick and pretty fine to play with, and that skull is pretty durable, pretty much unlike...
4. A solid white one. When I bought it, there was something printed on it with black letters, but it disappeared after like, 20 minutes of playing.
5. My first pick, a blue 0.8 mm one. I got it for Christmas soon after I started to play guitar, so it’s about ten years old. Played wrong way, lost and found countless times, but still one of my favourites.
6. Three-sided 3 mm pick. Pretty comfortable to play and semi-transparent. Rarely used, as I lost it quite definitely until now.
7. and 8. Both have one thing in common: I found them lying in the street. The brown one was my second pick and it used to have identical markings as the yellow one, but they disappeared after it ended up in the washing machine by accident. On the orange one there’s a picture of a turtle, but it’s rather blurred now.
9. My most used pick now. 1 mm, black, the logo is engraved in it, so it kinda improves grip.
10. A yellow one, 0.73 mm. I bought a few similar ones a long time ago (I recall one of them being orange and slightly thinner), and only this one survived.
11. A thumbpick. I actually stole it from fingerstyle guitar lessons at the same music festival wher I got #1, but a year before. Too thick to be used like a normal pick for me, but hard to lose and good, well, in fingerstyle (which I do poorly anyway).

Sweet, another guitar nerd. Except you’re probably loads better than me.

I spent years looking for all my picks before discovering that mum kept all of them in a drawer. Now that I’ve found that, I have a bunch.

So, what's your favorite? Take your pick.
