    Mortal Kombat 1: thoughts

Once again it's time to opine in relative obscurity, but it can't be helped. For a new Mortal Kombat game is upon us - to be the first since Mortal Kombat 11, which was released in 2019. Beyond the enjoyment that a new installment is sure to bring, there is an even more compelling reason to blog, and that is the premise of the story.

A sentimental moment · 2:25am Jun 6th, 2017

I’d just like to take a second to focus on a minute detail regarding one of the characters to have been brought to life in this wonderful universe:

Look closely, if you will, at the jewelry that adorns her neck. Those golden, loosely strung beads. They are like the sparks one sees over an unsettled fire. Think about that. Somewhere, there was an artist who was thoughtful enough to add that feature; someone who understood the character despite her not actually existing in the established canon. Somehow, these representations of beauty came to grace a representation of something ... else.

Focusing further out, what does this character mean in the context of the show? In the context of our culture, to the extent that it has elements common among the viewership? How did she come to be?

It would be a shame to waste such a character, don’t you think?
