So.... the updates. · 2:09am Jun 6th, 2017
I don’t like them. Much. Actually, they’re okay. After wandering around the site just I’ve come to find that it is, truthfully, much the same. There’ve been some changes to functionality, yes, but nothing that really cripples the site or ruins my experience.
There are some things I don’t like, though. For example: the genre and character tags being all in one color each. The latter honestly doesn’t bother me that much, but the former... I really don’t see a reason for it. It just feels counterintuitive. I really do understand that we are constantly and slowly moving towards GenFic, but the colored tags were very nice, as they allowed you to merely glance at the tags and see what you wanted. I understand the character tags, though. Since we are, like I mentioned, moving towards GenFic, It would become increasingly difficult to add pictures for every character. A name is much easier, as that would be readily available for any series.
Honestly, any other problems I have with it are the same problems I have with FurAffinity and Inkbunny. Too bland and unexciting.
Honestly, I just wanted to tell folks to stop freaking out. Yes, it’s a bit of a system shock (Ah? get it?), but things will be fine. Knighty wouldn’t fuck us over like that, you know? He’s a good guy.
As an aside, I noticed that link text color now matches the surrounding text color. I don’t know why... but that makes me a very happy gypsy.
So yeah. Chill.
With Love, Gypsy.
PS. As an other aside: I WILL be publishing that short oneshot Shipfic I keep mentioning soon. I WILL!!! I’ve just been busy. Sorry.
Faust, I’m a terrible, ungrateful prick, and I’m sorry, but... gah, with these changes and the almost total silence on these concerns, I can’t bring myself to believe that.
As a story published earlier today points out, “Change is bad” is a stupidity of the masses, but so is “Change is good”, There’s good change and bad change, and, with feedback, you should be able to tell which is which.
Yeah, GenFic is coming, but must it come at the price of our fandom? This is the only MLP-facfiction focused site out there. knighty has a virtual monopoly on this, he’s free to do what he wants, and where would have to go if we protested? Nowhere but tiny sites or general sites (DA), where written works are easily drowned out.
I’m just so concerned. We’re chipping away at the brony culture of this site. Couldn’t that at least wait until the show is coming to an end? Season 7 isn’t done, Season 8 is confirmed, Season 9 is believed to be also certain, according to rumors. We still have a few years in us... must we be greedy in scrapping this site and fandom?
Again, maybe I’m just an ungrateful prick. I don’t even know anymore. It says a lot that I chose to comment here, on this random blog, where almost nobody but you might see it. Shows how desperate I am to have my (and many others’) opinions heard, when all I am told to do is shut up, wait, and put up with something I don’t like.
What is happening to me? To this site?

You're free to voice your opinion anywhere, as far as I'm concerned. I guess I should be grateful for the comment? I dunno. I don't think anyone's been told to just shut up. In fact, from what I've seen, Knighty, much like always, has been more than helpful in answering questions on the update's blog post.
In the end, I actually do agree with you. I want GenFic to be a separate website, but that costs money. Money we don't know if Knighty even has. The simplest solution is to transition this to GenFic. Which I'm still excited for, mind you. As an original novelist, it'd be nice to have a place to test the waters with new projects.
Also, there is Fanfiction.net if you want to get traction on an mlp story. They still get a lot of attention there. Somehow. Dunno how.
Just be aware, that like any fansite, it's kind of a cesspool. And yes, that includes this one.
