This is Not My World · 5:08am Jun 3rd, 2017

Walmart, wandering the aisles.
I was near checkout when I recognised some items of mine sitting on a shelf, including some MLP figurines and some headphones. My shadow laughs at me, pointing out how stupid I was for forgetting them. It's been growing increasingly vocal these last few weeks, and I wish I could hit it. As I gather up my forgotten items I see someone familiar—I just know I've seen her before though I can't say how. She says she remembered when I'd left my things there months ago. Another boy pulls her away from me—someone she'd known a long time. I sigh.
My shadow uses my perfectionism against me, taunting that I'll never tell people how I really feel because of my fears and that I'll never have a loving relationship. My eyes narrow and my blood runs hot. My anger is so acute, I can nearly see the mallet hovering at my side. I hurl it with all my might at the apparition, and to my surprise, it hits! Lines like cracked glass appear in the air where the mallet struck. These lines splinter outwards and the apparition dissolves to dust. Like a burst dam, my memories come back and I remember:

This is not my world.

(I know it's Doctor Strange—that's just what it looked like, okay?)

Memories of my time in-game flood to my consciousness. I am a unicorn—and a powerful one. My entire life has been spent levelling up in this game world, and I was more powerful than any other player. I fly up the clouds and see a gaudy Empress Twilight, surround by a harem of acolytes in the clouds. I knew the man who played her character: Charles. He knew he had had no chance at beating me in my current state so he used a spell to trap me in that virtual world where I was a human and took my high-level items while I was unconscious.
I grab my old friend Wildfire (the girl I recognised in Walmart) from the clouds and together we fight. We work in harmony, moving so fast our characters blink in and out of existence. With one final bolt of energy, I reduce Empress Twilight to ash. Wildfire and I leave the scene behind and escape through the sky, skimming the level of the clouds.
"Are you ready to tackle the next dungeon?" I'm eager to keep levelling up—the god-like power is intoxicating.
Wildfire looks me over, incredulous that I can be so chipper. She bites her lip. "It's been a long time, even in real world standards."
"What—you don't mean you have feelings for Charles—?"
She looked away, unable to respond.
"But you and I spent millennia in that cave! Literally!" We had found caves where countless years could pass inside with only a week passing inside. "That world we just escaped was nothing—a trap world—only meant to occupy our minds while we were under the spell!"
Wildfire sighed. "I know. But the memories feel so real—I've known him since he was born. Don't you think it could have been destiny that the world made it so?"

If enough people ask, I may make it into a full story, but Flight is my top priority right now.
Speaking of which, how in the world does my unpublished chapter have 17 views already‽ :rainbowderp: Most of you aren't even supposed to know it exists! :rainbowlaugh: It's mostly done though—I'm writing some of the next chapter in conjunction with it, to make sure everything jives. You probably haven't noticed, but I've had to retroactively change some things (e.g.: Cloud city names), so I'm trying to avoid doing that as often... x)
Thank you all so much for reading! Cheers! :pinkiehappy:
