I love sporks. And I love soup. Those two things unfortunately don't go together very well.

Catching up on Season 7 · 3:54pm May 30th, 2017

Just watched A Royal Problem, because holy cow, Celestia episode... well, half of one, anyway.

Am I the only really weird one who doesn't really care about little bits in which the series doesn't make sense, or how it violates people's headcanons, etc, and still absolutely loves every episode that comes by? Because even if I did think say, Starlight Glimmer had a lame origin in the season 5 finale, I have been totally loving all her appearances in Season 7 so far. Seriously, the kite thing was soooooo awesome!

Because the negativity about the series doesn't offend me (really, go ahead and hate it if you like; fair enough, I say) - it just baffles me, because I still totally love it! I can't get through an episode without smiling; my cheeks hurt like crazy after binge-watching. After all these yeeeears of watching the show, it still never fails to brighten my day.

A bunch of us just like to overthink it. You have every right to just enjoy it as it is.

As long as there is shipping fodder, I'm pleased :ajsmug:

I'm glad you're having fun with it. I am too, just in a different way. To paraphrase Pinkie, sometims it's really fun to overthink things! :pinkiehappy:

I largely feel the same way. Some episodes frankly aren't very good, but the thing about that is...a "not very good" episode of MLP:FiM is still, on the whole, something I'll watch again when it's on, even if it's not an episode I especially like, because there's always something there to make it worth my time.

And yeah, Starlight's been a lot of fun in season 7 so far.

I totally agree. I cringed at the end of the season five closer with everyone else, but old Glimmer-Glammer won me over in the first few episodes of season six. I can't help but love Sociopath-Horse as she tries to figure out normal people through trial and error. (Oohhh. So I shouldn't mind-control my friends. Huh. Whoda figured?)

4552694 That's why I like her so much. Her approach to problems is always so different from how other characters in the show would have dealt with them. It's really refreshing after all these episodes.

I agree completely. I mean, I enjoy trying to figure out how the MLP universe works so it can be a bit irritating in that regard when they just seem to toss certain things out the window, but that's just something that I do for fun. It's certainly not something I take so seriously that having wrenches thrown into the works suddenly ruins the show for me.

As for Starlight? While she might not be my favorite character, she's grown on me a lot more than I expected her to when she was first introduced. I even actually really liked the way that they ended up redeeming her in the S5 finale. I didn't care much for her background, but I do love that she's one of the only enemies that they haven't been able to just blast with Rainbow Lasers, and instead actually had to convince that friendship was worth changing for.

Plus, as others here have mentioned, her very different mindset and view of the world has made for some really interesting and entertaining episodes, since she doesn't really approach things like any of the other main characters. Watching her attempts to figure out how normal ponies act, and how normal pony relationships work, has made for some really fun scenes in S6/7.

My country is only 8 episodes in.

It's the voice. I keep hearing the voice of a spatula wielding okonomiyaki chef martial artist. Hard to dislike that.

There's actually nothing wrong in analysis and thinking about the mechanics, as long as it is recognized that the show iisn't meant to be taken that seriously. The concept of continuity, and the demands for rigid adherence to it, is honestly baffling to me because the show is very clearly in an episodic format without a progressing story. The cast only makes occasional references to previous episodes and character growth; it's clear that the writers treat continuity as a suggestion more than a law.

And also the writers clearly will happily break any rule of setting or canon for a good joke.

Believe it or not, I really, really, like the fact that Twilight could not simply explode Starlight Glimmer with rainbow lasers and go home. Because that is frankly very silly, not at all realistic, and actually contrary to the themes of the individual episodes (which are so different from the season two-parters!).

Is this a pop-culture reference that is totally flying over my head?

Season 7 Glimmy is awesome and I am glad she is so awesome

I haven't really enjoyed the series sense season 4 for some reason except for a few episodes here and there. I'm hoping season 7 will draw me back in once netflix gets the episodes.

Voice actress reference. She once did the voice of Ukyo Kuonji in Ranma 1/2. Old anime fan reference.

I don't want to drag this into a debate, but that isn't strictly true. One of FiM's greatest strengths is its willingness to let the status quo change and the characters grow. It why the Mane Six don't show up as much anymore; they have little left to learn in the ways of friendship.

Of course, we could be operating under different definitions of the terms in question.
