UK anime convention · 10:33am May 29th, 2017
I know this is a little off topic, so I won't make a habit of it.
Some friends of mine are running an anime convention in November. They're all people who've been going to anime conventions for years and years, and wanted to give something back.
There's a natural hesitance to jump on board when a new convention turns up. You have no idea if they'll do a good job or not, and with hotels and travel factored in it's a lot of money to commit. There have been some real screw ups by new cons that were shoddily organised, generally by students thinking, "How hard could it be?"
Well, with an inside view I'm here to tell you that this convention is shockingly well organised, because these are all people who organise things for a living. They have Gannt charts, they have 3D plans of the venue, they have all the finances worked out, they have dealers and events on board. They know what they're doing. The only thing they need is you.
There'll be three awesome evening parties (the president is obsessive about audio). There'll be games both ancient and modern (the vice president is a board games nut). There'll be industry reps and dealers. There'll be a masquerade, there'll be panels on drawing, sewing, face painting. There'll be a cosplay ball, and even beginner's ballroom dancing lessons (that's me).
So if you like anime, live in the UK and you can spare a weekend in November, head over and get your ticket.
They did not pay me any money for this post.
