IN WHICH CRITICS SOMETIMES HAVE A POINT
I was supposed to be spending today dealing with my ex and her friends coming to get things out of my home, but bad weather forced them to take a rain check. As a result, I am here alone looking over my work, knowing I need to eat but too lazy to make food and too cheap to go out. My pillz often decrease my appetite – I only ate one meal yesterday.
After apologizing to one of my readers for my being a jackass, I thought about some of the things he said, and I realized he had some valid criticisms. That's kind of my downside as a person: I tend to respond to critique by shooting first and asking questions later; once I've had time to cool off and think things through, I can generally do what needs to be done (which often involves an apology).
Here's the gist: I'm going to be going back through the Burritoverse and early Recovery Arc stories and making minor edits to ensure terminology is consistent throughout everything.
That's the problem with writing two sorta-connected multi-story sagas and having readers see their individual parts in real time over two years. Writing evolves; ideas change. Fortunately, nothing has gotten SO out of whack that any stories need a total rewrite, but I do need to make a few tweaks. It's not something I like doing, but I owe it to my two readers to make a saga they enjoy a bit more coherent.
In the meantime, I'm still working on the last two Recovery stories, kind of jumping between one and the other. While I always planned the ending story to be two chapters, the penultimate story -- which may or may not be called The Rejected -- is starting to get a bit long. I don't really like one-shots that go beyond 5,000 words, and it looks like this one may, so I may have to split it into two as well. I don't know yet since I haven't even started its second half yet. There's just so much I have to accomplish in this story all at once.
Anyway, that's all for today. Peace out!
I get the impression that the finale will be somewhat disconnected from the rest of the arc, with Sunset leaving everyone behind and going back to Equestria. If so, then I can believe The Rejected would be on the long side; it's got a lot to wrap up, and in a way it needs to deliver a mini-conclusion to the arc. Right?
That's potentially ambitious for a single one-shot. On the other hand, it could go the Reconciliations route and just go multi-chapter; that would buy you as much space as you need to do what the story calls for.
4549211 - I've already written most of the first chapter of Recovery, which is its setup. I will attempt to describe it using nothing but emoticons just to be cryptic.
The final chapter should go something like this (shame there's no Sunset emoticons):
