This is my only thing I blog on anyways. But this is going to be a four parter. Part to see if a story idea would be good for y'all or way to tacky. And part to talk about Investing on Precious Metals.
1) I'm an affiliate marketer now adays for Regal Assets. They are a company that sells Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Palladium. Both in coins and metal bars. If you'd like to know more they have a free kit that you can get at this link.
2) If you have no interest in buying precious metals, or looking over the free kits they have. But are interested in marketing it yourself. Here's a link to be an affiliate. Now in company line and website line you can leave blank. If you don't have your own blog / website / what have you. I didn't. I just put in N/A.
There is no monthly membership fees. There is no buying in. You simply apply. If you get in, then you get a whole host of things. Free SOE words; Banner Ads; Text Ads; Swap Files; And lots of vids to inbed into your website if you have one.
3) Would making a fic about Sunset Shimmer hearing about investing in gold. And traveling to Equestria to get gold dirt cheap (And discovering that she's an alicorn) be considered tacky?
4) Or would using fanfics in place of blogging be fun / interesting if done right? Since I rather suck at blogging about anything that's not fanfic related or me just putzing around for fun.
I don't know about tacky, but there's a good chance it violates the Terms of Service of the site, and it might even break some kind of copywrite law to write fanfiction with affiliate marketing links. If you wanted to do this you'd have to
A) Re-write this Sunset Shimmer story to be different from MLP, the way the author of 50 Shades of Grey rewrote her Twilight Fanfiction into an independent story. So make a story about a red-headed teenager from a magical land (no ponies) who goes home, finds out she's a princess and uses her fantasy world's abundant gold to get rich.
B) You can't post affiliate marketing links on any fanfiction site I can think of, so you'd need to publish this story on your wordpress blog. However, you could probably link to that blog from here.

I actually tried getting ahold of https://www.fimfiction.net/user/Xaquseg touching this issue last week (well in a way. And a few other topics that aren't covered in the FAQs, but tangential). And didn't hear anything about it. So I don't think it violates any of the site laws. And I have seen tons of people promote their non site stories / MLP Physical stories; Get people to join them on Paetron; Promote something. Etc. In their fic's A/N. As well as Bio's.
So with all the people who've done the same thing. I don't think that violates site rules. Unless all those people where violating site rules. I mean if I make the story about something, and put a link in my A/N. Then it'll be doing what countless others have done before me. So if they are still members of the site, and their stories are still up. There should be no problem.
I've seen people who use there real world views and interest in stories so it can work. I mean you know how it works so the story could be Edutainment. I would say use a fictional company in place of your own. Look up Friendship is Optimal for a great story of someone using FIMFiction to spread a POV.
