Recently I have gotten a comment on one of my stories, "Her Inner Demons", by KnightMysterio:
The way you wrote it, if Twilight hadn't become Midnight, then a more realistic... and more fatal... revenge scenario would have occurred.
This tidbit has gotten my brain gears suddenly working. I wrote in response:
You know, I just imagined an AU scenario where Sci-Twi just... flips off and does a school shooting in Crystal Prep Academy.

The only thing I currently have trouble imagining is the final straw that would cause Twilight to do so.

I remember a Steven King short story about the POV of a school shooter. I think it was chilling how it can still be applied to modern incidents.

Ah, I see. Well, yes, I am aware that this plot bunny, if published, carries a very high risk of controversy. School shootings are a touchy subject.

I am neutral on this.
I really don't think Americans are quite so "hair trigger" as some seem to think. I'm an American, and I say if you want to write a story about a school shooting, go for it. Want to write a story about an attempted presidential assassination? Well, you'd better make sure everyone knows it's a fictional story, and not a set of publicly laid out plans, but start pounding those keys. Want to write a story where Vietnam, North Korea, and Germany team up and take over the good Ole U.S.A.? I'd read it.
Of course we do have a minority who are overly sensetive, and unfortunately they seem to be the loudest, but those are everywhere I suppose.
I say go for it. Besides, I've seen MUCH more controversial stories on this site, so I doubt you would have an issue with admits either.

I have decided to give this project a go.
The main problem with writing a school shooting fic is more the fact that... Well, I'm PRETTY SURE the majority of FiM's fanbase is USA centric. And there is kind of the issue that in America... School shootings are... Way more common than they ever should be. After all, there's already been 3 in 2017 and there were 15 in 2016. I even had a school near me recently shut down for a day due to a school shooting threat that had been made to the campus.
I'm not saying you can't ever do a fic around such a premise, because that'd be like saying you shouldn't do fics about murder or rape just because they are very real things that happen, but you SHOULD be sensitive with the topic and treat it with the gravity and the respect it deserves, especially considering your audience. People have very instant, very negative reactions just to the TOPIC of such a thing being brought up, let alone seeing something actually go through with making it.
It's certainly your choice, but I do highly advise caution here. You're stepping into dangerous waters and I don't want to see you get hurt over it.

Yep, based on my observations, many of the fans on this site are from the US. And I am aware that school shootings are... well, more of a thing in America than in Russia. (Mostly, I suspect, because Russia does not allow handguns or anything shorter than 800 millimeters and it's not like you can smuggle a rifle or a shotgun into a school. And if someone does bring a gas or a traumatic pistol, chances of fatalities are still low.)
I'll try my best. I am not writing it "for the evulz", after all.

I think this is the most dangerous minefield I'm stepping on. Then again, I like the challenge and I've wanted to write something dark for a while. Light fics are for the weak.
