War Anthologies Part 10 - The Third Crystal War - The Rage Of The Dark King · 4:54pm May 24th, 2017
I'm sorry this one came in so late, I just barely woke up a few minutes ago and had to my morning stuff.
Celestia woke up in a crystal cave hidden under Canterlot. The surviving citizens had saved her. However, they didn’t do it alone, among them was a being of pure light. The being had led to citizens to her body and led them to safety as the city burned.
She approached the being only to be shocked to find that it was Realta, the demigod of light and time and Grogar’s brother. He had saved her, but why?
He told her that her fate was not to end there. She needed to live on for a greater purpose, he wouldn't tell her exactly what, but that this town would hold the most importance in her new journey.
Taking his words to heart she made Canterlot her new home and the new capital of Equestria. Instead of aiming for peace like her predecessors always did, she would seek harmony and would rebuild this town into a great city as a symbol of that. Even so much as to move Discord’s statue into the city to create a balance between the forces of the world.
Realta left soon after the city was finished. His final message to her was that one day she would find a student here that would change the world.
She did as he asked and waited for this student to appear, for centuries. However, as the centuries passed Sombra’s armies continued to lay waste to the world around him. He soon reached the Great Endless East Sea. The very sea that Grogar had arrived from, thousands of years ago.
This was a great triumph for him and Luna. Plus there was even greater news for them as Luna had given birth to a lovely daughter. It seemed to be greatness all around as more children would be on the way. Luna was incredibly happy for all of this. But most of all as they were alicorns offspring. It brought her great joy that she was slowly brought back the species.
But there was a danger growing in their armies. A mare, whose ambition proved greater than conquering and having joy over a species being brought back. Selena Moondie was growing in rage, but none knew why.
Sombra and Luna could sense Selena Moondie restlessness and tried to control it. This proved dangerous as Selena Moondie lashed out and did the unthinkable. She attacked Luna and the offspring, nearly killing her, but also brutally murdering all the offspring. Sombra was horrified by Selena Moondie’s actions. He was forced to banish her from his armies.
Some of his armies questioned why he simply didn’t kill her. It made no sense, they were his offspring she had killed, and he didn’t avenge them. Did he care for Selena Moondie more than his own children? There was no romantic relationship between the two, as he saw Selena Moondie more as a daughter than anything else. Was because he saw her like a daughter? None knew, and this worried Luna greatly.
News of the attack on Luna reached Celestia. She was saddened for her sister but knew with Sombra’s forces now on edge and two of her biggest obstacles out of her way, she could make a decisive move. All she needed was one more piece.
This piece came in the unlikely of forms. With Luna wounds getting worse so did Nightmare’s twisting of her soul. That combined with her now uneasiness about how Sombra actually felt about things, made Luna began to slowly push herself away from Sombra.
Finally, after nearly six hundred years with him, she ran from the Crystal Empire and sought refuge with her sister. When she arrived in Canterlot, she was expecting to be arrested for her crimes, but instead, she was welcome with opened arms. Celestia was happy to see her sister home at last.
The same could not be said for Sombra. Without Luna by his side, he was broken and distraught. He began to lose track of everything around him. His mind, his sanity, his empire. He began to turn against all of it. Even Grogar could no longer control him.
His allies tried to calm him, but he turned on them as well. He was beginning to believe that he was nothing without Luna and he needed her back. At any cost.
Sombra’s own general Arabus left to Canterlot to convince Luna to come back, but she refused. But she did find it strange that Sombra would suddenly lose himself so easily. She wanted to help him, she did still love him, but she refused to return to that empire.
Soon this madness over Sombra began to spread across the lands of the north. Even the Yaks of Yakyakistan began to plead for Luna to stop Sombra turmoil. Finally giving in, Luna and Celestia marched their armies into the Crystal Empire.
After a long war, they manage to make their way into his castle. Once there, they quickly realized what had happened. Nightmare had secretly taken Sombra’s body. It seemed that when Luna got injured by Selena Moondie, Nightmare separated a piece of her and left it to wonder the empire until it found it’s way into Sombra’s mind. But in the end, Sombra had let the beast into himself.
He wanted Luna by his side or nothing at all by his side. So Nightmare provided that by unleashing his anger upon all the north.
Luna was horrified by the deal Sombra had made. But in the end, she knew there was only one way to break Nightmare’s grip on him. Celestia knew what her sister had planned and with a heavy heart agreed to help.
After a long battle, they capture Sombra, and Luna pulled the piece of Nightmare out of him and back into herself.
However, the unexpected happened. The ground shake and the empire began to quake as everything began to vanish. Just as Sombra had said, if he could not have Luna, then he would have nothing at all. The Crystal Empire was vanishing.
Celestia raced to get out of there, but her sister would not leave. Luna held the wounded Sombra the place vanished around her. She still loved him and she didn’t want it to end like this.
With a great ache in her heart, Celestia forcibly pulled Luna away from the Crystal Empire as it fully vanished. The two returned to the empire with heavy hearts. This was truly a painful moment.
But things would soon turn worse as now the full amount of Nightmare was back inside Luna. Only time would tell whether this evil would stay quiet……

So most of already have a good idea of what up next, but I still have a few twists planned. As for what happened, I had a lot of fun with this because I was no longer restricted on information.
