I'm just gonna' say it.
I was as disappointed as you all are when I found out that Cheerimac's being put on ice canon-wise.
But it's just a crush. They're not married, they haven't had kids. At the end of it, they just said they liked one another. It could break off at any point, might make a fairly pivotal Aesop 'No reason why we can't still be friends' sort of thing.
Look at it from a practical standpoint. Big Mac's the most well-developed stallion in the cast and the closest stallion to the CMC. And let's face it, one of their classmates finding a crush would be just as problematic both to the writers and the fans. Shipping combat was inevitable, I think the writers had to brace themselves for it no matter which direction things went. Hell, Fluttermac fans must have been irritated with the emergence of Cheerimac so there we go.
In any case, I still love Cheerimac, but then I also love many ships that haven't been confirmed and likely might never be. It's a bit of a stressful experience, not to say degrading, when the canon goes against what we see as the ideal but there are still many ways the show can impress and win back the trust that may have been shaken.
And hey, when the writers can't satisfy everyone, that's what FimFiction's for.
That's why I love this site and the people who work it.
So let's take a lesson from a certain bouncing pink pony and take it on the chin. Things can brighten up if you look in the right place.
