Dictatorships In Google Docs Groups? · 1:43pm May 12th, 2017
What's your view on dictatorships in Google Docs groups? As in the original author of the story, and owner of the story and the Google Doc has the right to ban anyone from the group as they see fit. Doesn't matter if they worked with them for years, but if they do add things the original author doesn't like, and argue they won't change or remove it even though the original author wants it removed. Then it gets worse when more than one member disagrees with the original author.
I firmly believe the original author should hold absolute power. Who can merely ban anyone from the doc group as he sees fit, and replace them with new guys. No ifs, ands or buts, if you annoy the original author to the point he feels like you are hijacking his story and generally ruining it, you get the boot.
What about you?
Well I totally agree with you there.
Since the main author created this piece of art, his opinion rules! I mean you can have editors and stuff to point things out, but only the main author can make the changes happen.

Exactly. How would you feel if say three editors added and changed stuff you disliked in your story and refused to remove it? Would you feel like they are stealing and ruining your story, instead of actually helping?
However, how would you feel if they added something you liked, but also agreed to remove the things they added you disliked?

Well. That is the good thing in gdocs. You can set it so every change has to be 'signed off' by yourself. So if you like a change, you accept it; if not, you decline it.
To the 2nd thing: It is good then right? I mean its a win-win situation then. Get things added you like and things removed you didn't like.
Totally agree. Author should have the final say
Suggestions are any editor's friend.
Besides that though, while the author should have the last say... let the editor have a say before that, though. Anything they do will always have a reason (which is usually to better the story), so try asking why they made a certain edit.
Of course, if they ignore you, they allowed themselves to be ignored, but if not, well,
friendship is magicI'll see myself out now.I agree and disagree with you.
I agree with the fact that the story in google docs belongs to the one who wrote the story to begin with.
But I also disagree.
If I want to publish a work on google docs and allow other people to tinker with it, that means that I am open to all types of criticism and wether I like it or not matter little for it is there because I am willing to approach other people who, to begin with, I trust enough to see the story/novel and change parts of the story that they believe it will make either the story better, have a better feel to it or just remove/add parts to either me certain scenarios more detailed or remove unnecessary details so that the readers don't get bored.
I, as an author, can ther agree with the changes being made or not, but I'll never go to the levels of removing the person from those who can alter the story.
The reason behind that is quite simple (at least to me): freedom of speech.
If I silence someone by removing him/her from the group of people who can alter my stories that means that I am far to sensitive and delicate to handle all ways of thinking that don't fit with my comprehension of the world, its rules and laws. I will always welcome all types of ideologies and concepts of how the world works, so that way I'll be able to gain a different approach on how to handle different scenarios for the story itself,
I am a fanatic of freedom of speech and I shall never silence someone because we think differently; on the contrary, I will actively search that/those person/people so I can find a middle ground in which we both agree. And if I can't find a common ground then I will try my very best in understanding where does their ideology(ies) come from. That way I'll be able to understand them better as a person and where their ideologies come from.
Thus, this will allow me to expand my vocabulary, understanding of words and events and overall make me a better author/writer.

The best solution for scenarios like that is quite simple.
Have one document in google docs and the same document in word. That way, you have the original document safe from being tinkered by the other three editors and that way you can compare your own work and the work with the editing of the three editors without risking anything.
