The Great Idea Massacre Of 2017 · 2:13am May 12th, 2017

So it's May 2017, and I haven't been heard of on here since December. I'am writing this blog just to touch on how 2017 has been so far writing-wise and to explain why I haven't published any stories lately.

I am just going to say this outright, 2017 has been a fucking nightmare in terms of trying to write fics. This isn't due to any unforeseen circumstances outside of my control, it's mostly all my fault.

So let me walk you through this madness month by month.

After I posted Catch Me If You Can in December I was very happy with how it turned out and in January I went to write another story. Literally on the first day of the year I started writing a story where Twilight has this very rare illness and had to miss the Grand Galloping Gala because of it. She had to have surgery to remove the illness and all that kind of stuff. I canceled it at the end of January because it lacked a unique direction for it to go beyond Twilight just having a surgery and recovering from it.

In February I had another Idea. I was writing a story where Rarity meets this spider and an interesting adventure, pseudo-mystery plot unfolds. This fic was axed 11 days after I started writing, mainly cause I didn't like how it was turning out. A couple days after that, I began working on another fic where Starlight, Pinkie Pie, Twilight, Rarity, Applejack, And Fluttershy were waiting for a table in a restaurant and never got one. This fic lasted a whole 36 hours before I gave up on it too.

So Now that brings me to March, new month, and another new fic. I had an idea for a fic about a Love Calculator and I began writing it. It was a slow process but I stuck with it cause I didn't want to kill off another idea.

So It became April and I was still working on the Love Calculator story. I was saying "this is gonna be it, this is gonna be the one. I will finally have a new story ready possibly by June!" Also in April I had flew out to California for BABSCon. It was great and I had tons of fun! Got to see some old friends, and I got to meet some others in real life for the very first time. It was pretty awesome. So I got home, I felt refreshed and ready to finish chapter one of the Love Calculator story and I come to find I have no internet. Long story short, I got home on the 18th and I didn't have any internet till the 26th so I had no way to work on the story. So by the time I got my internet back I didn't feel like working on the story anymore

Now It's May I am still on the cusp of finishing Chapter 1 I finally do it! I got an idea for chapter 2 started writing it and then... I just didn't wanna do it anymore. All the passion and motivation I had for the Love Calculator idea just vanished and I officially quit the fic last week... and here I am now.

I am officially out of ideas now and all I have to look at is a trail of dead ideas behind me. I mean they are not deleted so they are still slightly clinging to life. I had to reference google doc auto-save dates for an accurate timeline in this post. But the point of this post is to inform you that I am not dead. I have just been really struggling to find an idea and stick with it. Nothing would make me happier than to write a fic now with the summer months starting to get here and the warmer weather, but I need ideas.

And my killed off ideas over the last 4 months don't stop at the four I mentioned, I had others that didn't even fully get past the conceptualization stage before I gave up on them. I remember there was one idea I had where all Twilight's friends were busy one day and she was bored. So she goes to all these strange places to try and make new friends. These places would be huge references, like a ponified version of the bar from Cheers called Steers. Maybe a ponified version of the Seinfeld diner. I could have her end up in a ponified version of the Milk Bar from Zelda Majoras Mask. Maybe even a Ponyville strip club, you get the idea. That idea never got past the conceptualization stage... got close.

But that is where I am right now. I am not really begging for ideas, nor am I trying to create excuses for myself, or drum up sympathy, or anything like that. I plan to resolve this issue in due time and hopefully get back to writing again. I am writing this now because I was expecting to have a new story around this time but as I have demonstrated quite clearly, things have not gone according to plan.
