The Lion and the Unicorn, what would have been... · 11:56am May 7th, 2017
When I started writing this story, I envisioned it to be the first part of seven stories. Each focusing on one of the main 6 and their own struggles to try and find a way home, the seventh would have been a final showdown using what they had learned and brought back with them against Discord.
But as always, life got in the way and I stopped writing. As time passed I lost the will to pick it up, and then in the long break between season 4 and 5 I had sadly lost all interest in MLP. But now that I’m back, I still can’t bring myself to finish this story, or any of the others. It was an ambitious task, and while I do believe that the Lion and the Unicorn is the best fanfic I’ve wrote, the whole plan was just too much for me.
So, today I decided to show you what would have been the first half of chapter 7. But what would have happened next? Well…
Catherine would have spent her time being prepared to become the Emir’s servant. She was lead out to a gazebo into the garden, terrified about what would happen. But she soon came to learn that the Emir’s only interest was in his writing and poetry. He cared not for anything else.
Robert would have been thrown into a dungeon, there he would have met a new character, Walid the Thief. Despite not understanding each other they plan their escape.
With the help of the mysterious Godefroy, Twilight would have snuck into the Citadel that night, still limping on her sprained hoof. After exploring she would find Catherine and Joey and they would start planning their escape, but Twilight still had to find the secret McGuffin for Godefroy.
As to what that thing was, I’ve forgotten.
A chaotic escape scene follows where Joey and the other horses run free, but Twilight and the others get caught inside the treasure room. But Twilight has a plan and enchants a fine rug with the ability to fly. The group, now including Walid who was also after the secret McGuffin, get on and fly out to safety.
Soon afterwards Godefroy and Walid would both demand the McGuffin from Twilight. Each claiming at the other wants to use it for evil. But Twilight soon discovers that Godefroy was in fact a spy working for the Grandmaster and wants to capture both the McGuffin and Twilight.
The group escape and make their way to the Holy City. Walid reveals that he’s part of a secret order protecting a great magical artifact below the city. A doorway between worlds. Twilight sees that this is perhaps her best way to get home and they agree to go there together.
But when they reach the city, they discover that it’s under siege by the Solarians. The group try to sneak inside, but soon get caught up in the battle as the Knight’s Brotherhood lead the charge into the city, hoping to find the McGuffin and the portal before anyone else.
In the following battle, Robert gets shot by the Grandmaster with a crossbow.
The group manage to escape and soon find themselves in the portal room. It looks grim and her friends tell Twilight to go home, but she can’t leave them. She stays and helps defend Robert as Catherine takes care of his wounds. Walid fights by her side against the Knights.
It’s then Twilight learns the true meaning of the McGuffin they were fighting over. Whatever it was, it was supposed to help her stop chaos, and in battle there’s a lot of it. Twilight manages to defeat the Knights in time to save Robert. As peace washed over the city she would say goodbye to her friends and step through the portal home, taking the anti-chaos McGuffin with her.
That’s all there was for the Lion and the Unicorn. But, the second story in the series would have been titled: “Fluttershy’s Forest of Friends and Fears.” As you can guess, it was based around Fluttershy who had found herself in a snowy forest full of intelligent animals.
She is found lying in a snowdrift by a she-wolf who nurses Fluttershy back to health. Fluttershy soon learns that the forest used to live in balance between predators and prey until the Evil-Wolf killed the She-Wolf’s mate and became the alpha male. The She-Wolf was exiled as the Evil-Wolf soon started taking control of the other wolf packs and dominated the other predators. The pray have lived in constant fear ever since.
Fluttershy is terrified of this, but promises to help the animals and restore balance.
All what exists for this story is it’s cover art:
Thank you to everyone who read the Lion and the Unicorn. I'm sorry that it was never finished. But, this isn't the end of writing for me. I have so many plans, and perhaps soon I'll reveal them.
Ok, at least we got the grand picture in the end, right?
I'm looking forward to see your new creations.
Apologies for not looking at this post sooner. I'm really poor at doing what I say I'm going to do, it seems.
It's a shame to see the story go; I would have liked to see all that you describe make its way onto the page, but I understand the whole life getting in the way. It was a fun read and I enjoyed helping with the proofreading. I'm optimistic that your future stories will be even better than this one was .
