087 Announcing: Arcane Realms update!

Yup, it's that time of the year again! With that release we're keeping a nice, steady pace of two chapters a year, so that's something. Given it's been over six months since the last chapter, however, I won't be surprised if you have questions like "What this?" or "Why still on my bookshelf?" or "Hey author, why you still alive?". Here's a quick Q&A rundown to help you prepare for when I'm done with some cosmetic touches.

Almost twenty thousand words, are you nuts?
Possibly! This is the longest chapter of a story I've written up to date, but I made sure to include some scene breaks so you could take a breath while you're reading. The longest chunk within this chapter is about 5k, I think.

But I don't remember what happened last time!
Don't worry. Every chapter is a more or less self-contained story, so you need little to no knowledge from any of the preceding ones. As long as you remember something about the main cast, you should be good to go.

There's Spike on the cover and Twilight in the tags. That all?
This story focuses on Spike and friends he's made in Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Individuals. The three most important ones are: the ever rambunctious Razzle Lulamoon, daughter of her mother but with plans and dreams of her own; calm and collected Glavia, an aspiring griffon shaman and a talented artist who needs to manage her time between school, her hobby, and helping at a store over which she lives; and Piro-Merrot, a changeling from Hive Chrysalis who is fascinated by all things Equestrian, but sometimes has a hard time grasping the social construct that rule this strange, new land he's visiting.

So that's it, huh? They're some kind of Magical Squad?
In a word, yes. They're students dealing with magical entities, objects, phenomenons (and utterly non-magical homework and school life), all while honing their own mastery in spellcasting, as well as learning about each other and discovering the magic of friendship on their own. The story is also rich in worldbuilding tidbits, scientific approach to magic, and status of Equestria and its fine denizens fifteen years into the future counting from "point zero" (S01E01). Last but not least, this story is in canon with most of my other stories which you'll see linked under some chapters - so if you read something else, you may see it reflected in Arcane Realms.
