When an 8 year old is a better story teller than you. · 7:26pm Apr 30th, 2017
So my mother was sorting through the few aritfacts she has left from my childhood (she's a pathological anti-hoarder) and she found a story I wrote for a competition when I was 8. Apart from a few minor spelling and grammar mistakes it's pretty much perfect. I decided to share it with everyone because 8 year old me deserves recognition.

Dear Mrs Gillam,
During my Easter holidays I am going to take a “Space adventure” holiday. We shall be leaving Plymouth in a rocket joined to a space shuttle to get to Mars. All members of my family are coming with me to find a “Mars choclate(chocolate)” mine. This journey will take 6 hours, 40 minutes and 2 seconds. The total cost will be £1000,000 000 which includs(includes) the price of the shuttle and rocket, a place to stay in space and entry to the mines. We shall stay for 6 days. Having landed we shall use a space buggy and satellite dish programmed with a smell sencor(sensor) to trace the choclate(chocolate) mine. At the mine entance(entrance) we will be met by an alien who will take us around the mine. We will be allowed to touch the rocks to see if it feels like choclate(chocolate) or rock, if it felt like choclate(chocolate) we can break off pieces to taste the choclate(chocolate) rocks. The mine will be warm and damp yet cool enough to prevent the choclate(chocolate) from melting. As we travel along we shall hear tapping noises of the hammers and drills the robots are using to mine the choclate(chocolate). We will be allowed to bring back a family pack of “mars bars” so they will pack it in a special box so that on the way back to earth it will not melt. We will be leaving April 14th 2006. The charge to get in the mine will be 5 gold choclate(chocolate) coins and the cost of the family packs is 6 silver choclate(chocolate) coins. We will have a space camera with infrared lens so we can film in the dark. Photos will be taken of Mars, the mine, aliens and robots and pictures of Earth on our return journey.
Yours sincerely,
Darkest Dreams
I removed personal info for obvious reasons and added spelling corrections in brackets. Little me had trouble spelling 'choclate' apparently. At least I was consistent in it. Did I mention it won third place in the competition. Should have won first because first and second ripped off Star Wars and Sonic the Hedgehog, respectively.
