This isn't easy for me to talk about. · 10:42pm Apr 27th, 2017

Hey everyone. It's been a very long time since I've made a post as serious as this. I suppose I'll start when the shit starting happening in my life.

2017 has not been a great year for my family in the beginning. My dad just got back from California after New Year's Day and was ready to go to work. When he got there, he was surprised with a lay off. We weren't completely left out in the cold, however, since thankfully there are unemployment benefits he could gain, however it can only last for so long. It's not easy to find a job in Washington for my dad despite his engineering degree. Luckily an opportunity came along for my mom, which was my auntie who reconnected with us in February and offered my mom a part time job at her salon.

Knowing that she had to step up, my mom took the job and contributes money to dad to help pay for the house. From that point on, it seems like everything would turn out alright for us. We wouldn't have to sell the house and move across states to California (which thank fucking god we didn't because the hot weather is terrible there last I checked). However by the time March rolled in, that's when things took a turn for the worse.

The full story can be found at a link down below, but to sum things up, my family got scammed super hard and we lost a lot of money in the process. It's safe to say at this point, I'm going to be a lot more careful when handling craigslist deals. My dad's account hasn't gone negative but it's pretty close there. Knowing that the bills are being hard to pay for, I understand that I can't just let this not be known. I know it's a month late, but better late than never I suppose. You can see why this was hard to talk about.

Please check out my Go Fund Me for more details about what happened to my family: about how we got scammed and thrown into a terrible financial situation. If you can afford to spare money to help us out, I will be forever grateful to you. It would really help us out in the long run. If you don't, then I do implore you to share my Go Fund Me to people you trust. Share the link above and tell others to pass on the link and have them tell others to pass it on too.
With a heavy heart, I thank you for your time reading this.

As for what else has happened:
I graduated with an Associate in Arts degree.
I got physically assaulted by a guy and I'm expected to attend his trial in July as part of the jury.
My dad is considering to move out alone while still providing mom and I financial support (if he could secure a job in a location outside our area that is).
And I've been feeling more tired lately (it's not as important as the previous two, but I feel a fourth point was needed to complete this whole train wreck of four months).

4511998 Done! Anything for a fantastic writer like you!

I'll have you know that California is actually pretty swell and that if you ever find yourself in SoCal, hit me up and I'll see what I can do for you.

I don't have money, but I could help to spread the word.

I'll see what I can do. For now I'll just spread the word for you.

I've passed on your story to my followers.

Thank you so much for your help. Also if you could ask them to spread the message too, it would help immensely!

Sorry to hear this news, i just found a job after being laid off for 6 months. But why does everyone have to hate on California, we grow over 90% of the U.S. Produce, look it up and see. I personally live and have worked in the produce belt of California, rice dryers, tractors / fields, a tomato cannery. If you guys are strapped for cash the Ag season is starting now so come on down.

4515263 Already ahead of you. Some of us already posted blogs mentioning you. And you're welcome.

No worries i hate the heat too its already 80 degrees here.

Dun worry about getting scammed happened to me 3 yrs ago, lost 1300$, because i was one of the people who got a glitched rainbow rocks dvd, got the copy but a 3rd party stolen my card info and drained my bank account. Banks are useless. But this is why u never deal with someone who cant or wont meet you in person.

4515293 Exactly, right? That's the lesson I learned from my scam too. Friend told me to accept nothing but cash over craigslist from now on.

OK I took a read over the thing here.

How come the bank didn't catch this sooner?

4515284 No Problem. I couldn't just sit by and do nothing.

I gots you buddy... I donated earlier today... I should've left it then

4515326 I don't know all the details, but basically for dad's particular bank, it could take days for the check to officially clear.

Know how that is, been scammed myself and had a few people of cregslist try to scam me out of items. Hope things turn around for ya.

4515358 Were you Anonymous or Michael Polis?

Hold that banks feet to the fire. If they unwittingly allowed the funds to be available ahead of time before it cleared then they should be held responsible to some degree.

4515614 They don't get to be held responsible. In fact here's how the situation really rolls:
The way a fraudulent check scam worked in this case was that the scammer sent a check to us and we assumed it was legit without doing any background checks on the check itself. We cashed the check and then went along with the scammer's instructions to "pay" for the movers. He then asked for a refund and didn't want to buy the furniture anymore, and asked for us to send money back to him through Moneygram (which is like a Paypal service outside of the internet).
In the end, the money got to the scammer and he likely withdrew the cash as soon as possible. Meanwhile the bank figures out the check was fraudulent, meaning there was no real money behind it at all, and the one they hold responsible is my dad since he cashed the check in the first place. Where else would they go to look to get their money back? (Oh, and there's a fraud check fee as well so it was a little more than $1750 the bank took from us.)
To sum it up, we fucked up for falling for the scam so we had to pay for it. We do understand that it sucks hard and the bank should have been way more careful with the check, but we also accidently helped someone steal money from the bank.
I blame my own ignorance for not knowing this was a possible crime that can be accomplished and I should have been more careful. This whole ordeal sucks.

4516007 Omg dude thank you! That donation seriously astonishes me! :pinkiegasp:

You were physically assaulted? Are you ok?
How did that come about?

4522151 Former roommate. He has some mental disorders according to his mom. Thing is he mostly stays in his room at the bottom floor, so he caught me off guard when he entered mine which is up two flights of stairs. Grabbed my hair and tried to choke me with the other hand, but I suckerpunched him in the face and pushed him out. Called the cops and they arrested him.

Unfortunately you got hit by a VERY VERY common CL scam. Im sorry to hear what happened and hope for the best.

For future note to anyone, DO NOT accept cashiers check, DO NOT accept anything but cash, if you can MEET the person you are selling to...scammers will always have 0 face. It stinks but if you are using CL, you have to not cut corners to make sure you dont get screwed
