Doctor Perseus Reviews: MLP S6E23 "Where the Apple Lies" · 11:11pm Apr 19th, 2017
Continuing my montage of reviews with my look back at Where the Apple Lies.
This was a really fun Applejack episode. Granted, it does fall into the tired trend of Applejack-centric episodes being focused mostly on her family. But this at least had the twist of it being mostly a flashback. The crazy scenarios that resulted from young AJ's lie were a lot of fun and I really had no idea where the episode was going to wind up.
Of course, the star of this episode was Big Mac. Hard to believe that there was apparently a time where Big Mac had a problem with talking too much. Applejack and Big Mac were a lot of fun together in this episode and it was actually pretty heartwarming to see the origins of Big Mac slowly becoming the mostly silent pony we know him as. Granny Smith was also enjoyable in this episode. Seeing the beginnings of Filthy Rich and Spoiled Rich's (who had a fitting original name of Spoiled Milk) marriage was also interesting. It at least further proved that Spoiled was always the most rotten egg in that family.
And...that's about it. This was just a really fun Applejack episode with some funny and heartwarming moments here and there. I did say these reviews were going to be pretty short.
So what did the rest of you think of Where the Apple Lies?
So that makes this Applejack solo episode #5, along with Family Appreciation Day, Somepony to Watch Over Me, Leap of Faith and Appleoosa's Most Wanted. Seriously, I think Applejack has the most episode appearances without any of the other Mane 6. Twilight comes in second place with 3 (Hearts and Hooves Day, Princess Spike, and The Times They Are A Changeling) and Rainbow Dash in last place with 1 (Flight to the Finish). while the others have none.

That's interesting. I didn't notice that until now.
I found this to be a pretty solid episode. I really liked seeing the origins of Applejack's honesty and Big Mac's laconic nature. But I go into all that much more in my own review blog if you haven't had a chance to check that out.
I also talk about my newfound love of apple cider.
