The Easter Update · 5:59am Apr 17th, 2017
It's been way too long since I've last updated. And I should have put the story in hiatus too. But now I'm here, 'He has risen' and all that, and I've got a few more chapters to add.
Honestly, I don't even know if I'm going to keep on writing this. I keep putting it off, again and again and again. I haven't been on FIMFiction in a long time either, and it seems like a lot has changed. Is anyone even following this story anymore? Probably not because there's nothing to follow. Well, I haven't completely ditched this story-- I've been hammering together bits and pieces from time to time-- and tonight I finally have some more stuff to share. I think I also made some changes to the first chapter, which I'll have to update.
I'll try to update more regularly and more often, but I can't make any promises. Last time I did, I ended up taking an extremely long hiatus and I was too lazy to even put the story into hiatus. A lot has changed in my life since I first got the idea for this story too-- back at the end of 2013, to be exact-- so there might be significant differences in my writing and temperament, as well as the influences behind the story. However, the plot is still the same, so where the story is going to go has not changed at all, but there might be some slight changes in how it gets there.
I've often considered just dropping this thing entirely and moving on with my life, but I've just never been able to let go. I've also fantasized about just handing the story off to somebody else, perhaps some better writer who could actually write good dialogue and descriptions. I have a bunch of ideas, but struggle to put them into words. I know someone else could definitely write a better story than I can, and it would be fine as long as I get the credit for coming up with the idea in the first place. Then I remember that this is actually a deeply personal story, and that only I can write it the way I envisioned it. If someone else wrote it, it would be a different story altogether, and in that case, who needs a middleman when you could just write your own?
I've also considered condensing this story into a series of condensed diary entries so I can move the plot along. Most of my big plans are in the latter half of the story, when the characters finish their journey and arrive at the eponymous 'Nucleus' and meet the villain, but I'm stuck at the beginning just trying to set everything up. Then again, I'd have to rewrite everything I've already written, and a lot of the ideas I have wouldn't work nearly as well as they could have otherwise. A third option would be to fold this story into some of my long-term plans and just make everything in this story as backstory for another story (a planned sequel). However, that would be cutting out 90-95% of this story, taking just the highlights and destroying the rest. I don't even have a solid plan of how I would incorporate this story into that one, but it would happen somehow. I have also considered writing two different editions of this story: one made up of short diary entries that cuts to the chase, and a much longer version that goes in depth with the narrative. The purpose would be to get the story out there as soon as possible, in case I don't ever get around to writing the longer version, but I don't know if writing two different versions of the same story would even be allowed on this website.
If anyone has any advice on what I should do, it would be greatly appreciated. For now, I think I'll just try to keep writing the story the way it is, but at the rate I've been going, it might literally take decades to finish this, and by then there won't even be a fandom anymore to read it!
TLDR: I procrastinate so much that it's literally killing my story.
